Hi All!

Welcome to my ego page. According to Googlism,

steve rapaport is correct if you want to create a database accessable via a browser

and that was largely all I did for a few years. I'm now also an editor, writing coach, and Linguistics Postgraduate student at the University of Edinburgh.

Wikipedian[edit]

I've been a Wikipedian since 25 September, 2002, and I'm user 4194. I'm also on WikiCities on the Dragaera Wiki as Steve the Younger, and on the Petdiabetes Wiki as Steve and Jock. (Jock was our diabetic hairless cat).

I started up a few articles myself, either from zero or from stubs, some of which remained mostly mine for quite a while. The days when it's possible to just think of something cool but relatively obscure, and expect it to be absent on Wikipedia are, alas, gone. The original articles I'm happiest with include:

I think I deserved a gold star for Italian language even though it's not even close to mine anymore.

I've also contributed significant good stuff to:

other contributions to the universe[edit]

I've just founded and bootstrapped the new Pet Diabetes Wiki, which may sound obscure but the hundreds of active members of the feline diabetes community would disagree. Over 250 interlinked and categorized articles deal with issues of diet, insulin, and treatment, and it has over 50 real case studies online already, as well as links to scholarly and veterinary papers. 2/3 of the credit goes to major contributors Venita and Kathy.

I'm currently writing some tutorial articles to describe grammar (cross-language, not just English), from the point of view of those more familiar with programming languages. No I'm not trying to formalize human grammar in the Chomskian sense, rather I'm trying to informalize it to the point where it becomes less threatening. I hope you like it, and I welcome feedback to steve at rapaport (dotcom).

I'm on the Countering Systemic Bias Project. I've lived in Canada, the US, Quebec, Italy, Sweden, and now in England, so I feel I have an outside view of things. It also gives me an irresistible urge to tamper with pages about French, Swedish, and Italian. :-)

Interested in this one too: Project Galatea

This is a great project and I hope to continue contributing occasionally when I should be working instead.

I believe I may have coined the term "the 0-0s (uh-oh's)" for the first ten years of the millenium, and I put it into the 'pedia on 26 September 2002 hoping to spread the meme. It appears to have been a successful attempt.

Cheers, Steve Rapaport
