Merge[edit]

I notice also a category entitled "percussion", any chance of merging these? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.176.61.57 (talkcontribs)

Category:Percussion has a broader scope than this one, which is a subcategory of it. If you look at the interlanguage links of that category, you'll see that it exists in a number of the other larger Wikipedias too, and in each of them this category also exists. A merge is not appropriate. Andrewa (talk) 05:48, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting questions... sorry it's taken more than five years to look at them! If you're still interested in answers, have a look at steelpan and if they're still not answered there, perhaps raise them at the Wikipedia:Reference desk/Entertainment. Or, if you've answered them in the meantime, consider adding this information to the article! Andrewa (talk) 05:48, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Split[edit]

IMO this category should become mainly a metacategory, with few articles and none of them on specific instruments, rather it should contain four pure metacategories (i.e. container categories), each of them with no articles:

and each percussion instrument should belong to at least one subcategory of each of these metacategories. Andrewa (talk) 19:30, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
