I suspect this is referring to Singapore's rather strict penal code - you can't discard a candy wrapper without being heavily fined, and God forbid you should actually commit an act of vandalism because you'll find your backside bleeding from the impact of a heavy bamboo cane. These laws are seen by many as infringing civil liberties, but on the other hand the place is nice and tidy... :-| Lee M 04:27, 28 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I just took out the reference to illegal stuff. When you're there you don't really think about it much. It does not seem to have a detrimental effect on the city. I also fixed up the images. I don't think it's wise to have huge images on Wikipedia. -- Mark Ryan 08:10, 18 Nov 2003 (UTC)

A 'rant' regarding shopping laws in Singapore was recently removed. I agree that the added paragraphs was mostly a rant, but if it is true that there are product warranty / return issues, then it may have been a better idea to reword rather than to simply delete the paragraphs in their entirety? I think it might balance the shopping section which sniffs a little of self promotion. I'm not familiar with the specific laws of the country so I don't feel I can fix. Fair use rationale for Image:Future SG skyline.jpg[edit]

Image:Future SG skyline.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Crime rate[edit]

Note that Singapore always appear in the lower quartile on the differently types of crime, therefore makin Singapore a country with a low crime rate.
