Dorothy Parker

(moved from User talk:DropDeadGorgias and User talk:SebastianHelm) I just wrote I'd ask before I reverted someone's well-meant edits, and then I deleted the reference to Dorothy Parker on Pearls Before Swine. The story goes that Dorothy Parker and Clare Booth Luce were entering a building. Both women were famous for their vicious insults; Clare stayed behind and as Dorothy entered the building first, she stated "Age before beauty." Dorothy Parker kept walking in, and immediately retorted "Pearls before swine." The quote is often used to demonstrate Parker's uncommonly quick wit. The quote was originally on the Dorothy Parker article, but it has now been moved to wikiquote here. I'm not really sure it needs to be mentioned in the Pearls Before Swine article, but the quote is quite famous, so I could go either way on it. This web page refers to Mrs Robert Benchley's biography of her husband and her eye-witness (?) account refers to a "chorus girl" not a writer/diplomat, not Clare Booth Luce/Brokow or person by name Herr Rott (talk) 16:30, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Casting Pearls

Since the original article is very short and unreferenced, is it fair to include the assertation that their name comes from "Pearls before swine"? All the other bands or songs are actually called "Pearls before swine" and are not just (allegedly) based on the phrase...212.137.27.116 (talk) 14:45, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Discourse on Holiness or Discourse on Judgementalism

The article states, "Pearls before swine refers to a quotation from at Matthew 7:6 in the discourse on holiness,", but it seems to me that "Pearls before swine refers to a quotation from at Matthew 7:6 in the discourse on judgementalism," is more appropriate because what is holy is the judging, and pearls could refer to judging as well, in the form of criticism (e.g. pearls of wisdom that come from "constructive criticism"). Therefore the thing that should not be put in front of people who cannot appreciate it is judgement and the statement, ",implying that things should not be put in front of people who don't appreciate their value" can be dropped.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.15.42.72 (talk) 22:12, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
