I have removed all of these ext links again. Please see WP:EXT. Sean.hoyland - talk 12:40, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest[edit]

This article has been repeatedly edited by functional accounts that appear to be connected to the JCPA. At least two of these accounts have been blocked on that basis e.g. [1], [2] Edits over an extended period have been promotional in nature, were inconsistent WP:PROMOTION, WP:NOTMIRROR and WP:EXT and have been reverted several times. Since the editors are apparently unfamiliar with policies and guidelines or are unwilling/unable to comply with them for some reason, a conflict of interest tag serves to remind all editors that major contributors to this article appear to have a close connection with its subject and that this needs to be managed as it is likely to recur. Sean.hoyland - talk 03:41, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stubbed[edit]

I've stubbed the article, which was an obvious advert for the organization that depended entirely on self-published promotional material. –Roscelese (talkcontribs) 18:13, 25 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Archives of this Talk Page[edit]

I've archived some of the old discussion on this page which related to previous versions of this article that no longer exist. If this isn't okay, please let me know. Chani916 (talk) 12:42, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

General Sanctions[edit]

Stupid Newbie question. I've read the WP:GS article, but I'm still a little confused as to what it means for this article to be under general sanctions. I'm not arguing with it, I'm just curious what that means for editors of this page. Chani916 (talk) 17:46, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Since the article is within scope of WP:ARBPIA it is covered by WP:1RR. I've added a header to the talk page to make that clear. The "Editors reminded" and "Editors counseled" sections describe what the sanctions mean to editors. In practice, it means that Wikipedia's policies and guidelines can be more strictly applied, through Arbitration Enforcement for example. Sean.hoyland - talk 18:31, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks for clarifying that. Chani916 (talk) 13:58, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I did research on how to preserve the neutrality of this article[edit]

And key words such as threats and radical sound too harsh for the tone of this article, don't you agree? 98.191.196.7 (talk) 03:12, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Page looks like a JCPA mouthpiece, NO critical view whatsoever[edit]

This is counter to all Wikipedia policies. Like most think-tanks, JCPA has a clear political tendency. Not mentioning it means cheating the Wikipedia users who come to find here neutral information. I found the page with 24 of 48 quoted "sources" being - the JCPA's own homepage! Wake up, folks! Arminden (talk) 07:54, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 18 July 2023[edit]

In "Key People" the first listing should be added to read "Dan Diker (President)" the former president Dore Gold should be listed "Dore Gold (President, 2009-2015, 2016-2022)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Diker Add "Yechiel Leiter - Director General" in "key people" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yechiel_Leiter

After the words "primary public diplomacy and research initiatives" should come this text: "Palestinian Leadership Accountability and Reform; Exposing "Apartheid" Propaganda against the State of Israel; the Black American-Israel Leadership Initiative; and the Arab-Israel-Africa-India National Security Partnership and Communications Project."

The sentence "It is being financed to a large degree by Sheldon Adelson..." should be struck out. (The Jerusalem Center no longer receives funding from Sheldon Adelson's organizations, as he is now deceased.) Instead, it could be written that, "The Jerusalem Center is privately funded."

After the paragraph beginning "Dr. Dore Gold..." an additional paragraph should be added: "Dan Diker serves as president of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs. Diker served as the Secretary General of the World Jewish Congress, and headed the Center's Project Against Political Warfare as a fellow, authoring and editing six books on the BDS movement and several books on Israel's national security doctrine of 'defensible borders' and edited two policy compendia on Iran's 'race for regional supremacy'."

We suggest striking out the section on "Political Orientation" or at least making it more accurate and timely. "It has been headed since 2000" should be changed to "It was headed by" to represent the change in personnel. Dore Gold has retired. I suggest striking the sentence "Adelson is an American billionaire..." (This sentence is misleading, and interferes with the objectivity of the article. JCPA is nonpartisan, with supporters in both the Democratic and Republican parties in the United States and "conservative" and "liberal" supporters globally. The link to Adelson's profile is enough to redirect curious readers.)

Under the "Institute for Global Jewish Affairs" instead of "Directed by Mansfred Gerstenfeld" it should read "Previously directed by the late Manfred Gerstenfeld..." (as Mr. Gerstenfeld is deceased.)

Under the heading "Programs and Initiatives" the following updates should be made to reflect the current and active programs pursued by the Center, referred to in brief in the above addition (the information below is culled from the Center's website):

"Palestinian Authority Accountability and Reform Initiative

In 2016, the Jerusalem Center launched a research initiative documenting the Palestinian Authority’s official payments to terrorists and their families. This led to legislation both in Israel and the U.S. Congress (the Taylor Force Act) that conditioned aid to the Palestinian Authority on the cessation of these terror-incentivization payments. The Jerusalem Center has expanded the anti-“Pay for Slay” initiative to hold the Palestinian Authority to account for corruption, international lawfare against and "apartheid" propaganda against the State of Israel, the use of classic anti-semitic tropes and the delegitimization of Jewish self-determination in its rhetoric. The initiative aims to moderate the Palestinian Authority to desist from incitement and work towards peace with Israel.

Initiative to Expose “Apartheid Antisemitism” against the State of Israel

In 2016, the Center launched an initiative to combat “apartheid antisemitism” - the depiction of Jews and the Jewish state as "colonialist," "racist," "privileged whites,” and an “apartheid state” in the U.S. public discourse and in international forums such as the United Nations. To this end, the Center's President Dan Diker engaged black South African government, business and academic leaders in a joint research initiative to refute BDS “apartheid” claims. In 2020, black South Africans and Black American leaders, together with Arab and Ethiopian Israeli researchers, contributed to Diker’s compendium, "Israelophobia and the West." https://jcpa.org/israelophobia-and-the-west/

The Black American-Israel Leadership Initiative

The Jerusalem Center’s joint diplomatic-educational PEACE-Promise project with the U.S.-based Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel (IBSI) educates young Black American and African leaders and influencers to combat antisemitism by enhancing cooperation between Blacks, Jews, and the Jewish state. The IBSI-Jerusalem Center “Promise” educational project teaches IBSI members, in Zoom classes and in-person meetings during their Israel mission trip, a curriculum which includes the history of Israel-Africa and Black-Jewish relationships, and exposes them to diverse ethnic communities in Israel including Israeli Arabs, Mizrahi Jews, the Druze community, and Ethiopian Jews and Christians.

The Arab-Israel-Africa-India National Security Partnership and Center for Security, Diplomacy, and Communications

Following the Abraham Accords, the Center has partnered with its contemporary research and diplomacy institutions: Bahrain’s Derasat policy institute, the United Arab Emirates’ Emirates Policy Center, Morocco’s Policy Center for the New South, and India’s Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF).

In 2023, as part of the Center's transition from an exclusively research-based institute into a center for regional security, diplomacy, and media communications, the Center initiated an independent communications center. JCPA's Security, Diplomacy and Communications Center employs multi-media platforms including social networks an in Arabic, Farsi, and English to reach the Muslim world, across the African continent, and Western world. Arabic-, Farsi-, and English-language journalists and influencers collaborate with the Center to encourage objective, responsible journalism and dialogue that aims to facilitate collaboration throughout the Middle East and Africa, including by providing innovative Israeli solutions to acute regional challenges such as terrorism and water and food security."

What is your connection to JCPA? Have you read WP:COI? Zerotalk 11:51, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Here are sources that note the appointments of Dan Diker as President of the JCPA https://www.jns.org/israel-arab-africa-summit-shows-path-forward-for-new-diplomatic-strategy/
and Yechiel Leiter as Director-General of the JCPA https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/article-744208. This is public information. Old Yishuv Groove (talk) 09:59, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This page, an official register from the "Rasham HaAmutot" (Israel Nonprofits Registry) shows that Dan Diker is the current president, while Yechiel Leiter is the current Director-General of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (in Hebrew, HaMercaz HaYerushalmi L'inyanei Tzibur U'medina). המרכז הירושלמי לענייני ציבור ומדינה (ע"ר) (JERUSALEM CENTER FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS (REGISTERED AMUTA - בעלי תפקידים (guidestar.org.il) Please publish the above edits. I disclose my COI to the JCPA. Any change that is not considered objective, of course, can be struck down by editors. On the other hand, I noticed that the main edits were made by an editor that has several edits on "Palestine" topics - which really brings up doubt as to his/her "objectivity" on the subject. A better question: how is an article regarding an NGO/Organization to be composed in Wikipedia without referring to said NGO's website, if each of the items is not substantiated in a news story? It becomes very difficult. Old Yishuv Groove (talk) 10:03, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In addition, I requested to update the comment on Manfred Gerstenfeld who is now deceased. This is a simple edit - source that he is deceased. https://besacenter.org/manfred-gerstenfeld-in-memoriam/
In regard to funding, I was unable to find a source that shows that Sheldon Adelson no longer funds the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (which does not disclose exact names of contributors), but a least the GRAMMAR of the sentence should be changed for accuracy: instead of "is being financed to a large degree" at least "has been financed" is more accurate. The last time financial contribution from Adelson (who is deceased!) was reported was 2015. It is now 2023, seven years later. Old Yishuv Groove (talk) 10:17, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've resolved those out of date elements. Iskandar323 (talk) 10:45, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless of editors' preferences, the overemphasis on Adelson (who is deceased and no longer funds JCPA) seems out of place. This article has been truncated to one-fourth of its original size, yet detailed descriptions of Adelson which are irrelevant to the subject remain, twice in a short article. One mention is appropriate, not three and then who Adelson was. The hyperlinks direct readers to Adelson's Wiki article in any case. Old Yishuv Groove (talk) 08:17, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made.
I echo Zero's comment that you seem to have a too-close connection to the subject. Xan747 (talk) 23:44, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but I don't understand this objection. Assume for the sake of argument that this editor has a COI (unproven, but let's go with that) - they are following the recommendations made in WP:COI "COI editors are strongly discouraged from editing affected articles directly, and can propose changes on article talk pages instead". They are requesting such edits here, rather than making it themselves.
If you have objections based on one of the points raised in WP:COIRESPONSE, spell them out, but simply saying "nti done because you have a COI" is not an acceptable response, it defeats the whole point behind asking COI edits to make edit requests. Red Slapper (talk) 20:30, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The first rule of COI is to disclose your COI. Iskandar323 (talk) 20:47, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Iskandar323 has made more than several edits to Wikipedia on the subject of "Palestine" which seems to bring up his/her "objectivity" in this case. Old Yishuv Groove (talk) 10:04, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Basically what Iskandar323 said. This was a extended-confirmed protected edit request, not a COI request. Further, the request says, We suggest striking out the section on "Political Orientation" or at least making it more accurate and timely. Who is "we"? This is a COI editor, or I'll eat my hat. Xan747 (talk) 22:10, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If it's not a COI request, why does he need to disclose COI? And you seem to believe that this a COI editor, so why the pedantry around "This was a extended-confirmed protected edit request, not a COI request" Red Slapper (talk) 22:14, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
> And you seem to believe that this a COI editor
No "seem" about it; that's exactly what I believe. But mainly I rejected the edit on the basis of the editor not providing a single reliable source to support the request. Xan747 (talk) 22:22, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a reliable source for you for the first part of their request, regarding the current president - https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/article-729683 Red Slapper (talk) 23:25, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But doesn't support when Gold left. For that kind of stuff, I think it's ok to use their website. For the rest of it, good luck finding anything. Most of what's in this article looks to be the result of years of undisclosed COI editing. The current request includes In 2023, as part of the Center's transition from an exclusively research-based institute into a center for regional security, diplomacy, and media communications, the Center initiated an independent communications center. which is pure marketing wp:puffery. This is not a detached third-party trying to build a better encyclopedia, it is someone with a close relationship to the organization trying to surreptitiously extend their PR efforts to Wikipedia, and should therefore be treated with extreme prejudice until they come clean about their relationship. Xan747 (talk) 02:04, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Why is this not a legitimate source?? Old Yishuv Groove (talk) 10:46, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 31 July 2023[edit]

Kmarielle (talk) 06:23, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree with the proposed edits from Kmarielle, and of the prior edits from the Old Yishuv Groove. Simply looking at their website confirms all the proposed edits. The current Wikipedia page for the JCPA is outdated and the proposed edits are simply updating the page. Historybot21 (talk) 06:36, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I also suggest under conferences (the last conference mentioned is nearly a decade ago): JCPA held a three-day conference titled “Trusted Regional Partnerships at a Time of Shifting Alliances” in March 2023 in Jerusalem, which included representatives from nearly 30 African and Middle Eastern countries. The conference focused on national security, counterterrorism, food and water security and the environment. https://www.jns.org/jerusalem-parley-focuses-on-israeli-ties-with-africa-gulf/ Old Yishuv Groove (talk) 08:13, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
