Untitled[edit]

I thought the previous version of this article had so many links in the text it was hard to read. I stand by most of my link removals and I will now explain them: a) it seems unlikely anyone will write articles on plak tow or kulit sona, even pon farr might not get its own article, but I let that one stand; b) I delinked Ensign Taurik since if he is not in fact the same as Vorik, he has only appeared in one episode and most likely will not be considered an important enough character to merit his own article; c) we can be fairly certain that 99% of the people reading this article know what the terms "fictional" and "combat" mean, and linking those terms only makes the text needlessly hard to read. Chronological inaccuracy?[edit]

I wanted to give people a chance to respond before I make the change, but I think the chronology of Vorik's pon farr is wrong. My recollection (and I just watched this a few days ago) was that Vorik made his attempts on Belana, and attempted the mental link, before finding out for certain he was going through pon farr. He then proceeds to meditate and take the Doctor's suggestion to use a holographic vulcan to "have his way with her", so to speak (which I may add is a disturbingly easy move towards the objectification of women, which is off in the Star Trek universe in my mind...but that's besides the point...).

Vorik fails in all attempts and then challenges Tom Paris to a fight, but Belana chooses herself as her defender. They beat each other up and the "blood fever is purged" (in Tuvok's words).

Yeah, whoever wrote the article got the events in the wrong order. I think it's more likely that Vorik realized he was going through pon farr before he proposed to B'Elanna, though -- what other logical reason would he have to do that? At the very least, when he started thinking seriously, "Hmm, maybe it would be a good idea to propose marriage to my boss..." a light bulb should have come on in his head. :p Also, during his conversation with the Doctor right afterwards, he isn't surprised by his diagnosis (embarrassed, yes; surprised, no).
My take on the chronology -- Shortly before the events of the episode "Blood Fever", Vorik realizes he is going through pon farr. He proposes to B'Elanna, she rejects him, he loses it and tries to initiate a mating bond with her. He refuses treatment from the Doctor and tries meditation instead. This doesn't help, so finally the Doctor convinces him to try the holographic mate. This appears to cure him, but actually only relieves the symptoms somewhat. Finally, having exhausted all of his other options, he beams down to the surface, challenges Tom, has his ass handed to him by B'Elanna, and they all live happily ever after. 205.153.56.10 19:48, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
