Over four years later, I'm still confused. A poster on the Yahoo! Groups [peel] group [1] has a tape of John Peel's Top Gear show for 11 July1970 in which Peel sings "Happy Birthday" to Walters, suggesting that the date we give (16 May) is wrong. --rbrwr± 09:25, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, Ken Garner (author of The Peel SessionsISBN9781846072826) confirmed 11 July 1939 in a message to the Peel Yahoo group. [2]. It's probably not acceptable as an in-article reference, but worth noting here. --rbrwr± 16:38, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
