I agree. (I actually think I know the younger Matt Vassar; he's a great guy but not worthy of a Wikipedia bio.) I've put that biography up for speedy deletion and am removing the link to it from this page. Hbackman 03:51, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The removal of the biography is not vandalism. Please respond to the charge that it does not meet any of the acceptable criteria for the inclusion of biography.

First women's college[edit]

I changed the wording about Vassar being the first women's college in New York. Elmira College was founded ten years before Vassar, and while it may not be as well-known, it still existed before Vassar. Paul 04:19, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I changed it back before reading your note. I'll change it back yet again without the unqualified word "major". JDoorjam Talk 04:21, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thank you. I didn't know if I should put "major" in there or not, but figured that somebody would change it if need be. Paul 04:28, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, college articles, and those articles related to them, tend to suffer from "brochure creep," where over time they gradually start reading less like encyclopedia articles and more like promotional literature for the college. Do you know whether it was the second women's college in New York? If so, that'd certainly be worth subbing in for the generic "one of the first." Cheers, JDoorjam Talk 04:44, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't, actually. I was doing work on the Elmira College entry (I'm a student there) and noticed this inconsistency. If I come across any information that I can use to strengthen the sentence, I'll be sure to add it. Paul 05:50, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
