I'm glad you responded! I also see the need to figure out issues like this. And in fact it's the reason I posted the link I took the information from as well. - It's just so easy to just copy and paste some information from the web.. In this case I think we could simply email the copyright holder and ask for his permission. - anyway: do we have some kind of discussion forum around here? (being new to this site...)

Yep, see WikipediaL. And yep, please e-mail the author. He says he wants copies intact, and this copy is available for anyone to edit here.

He wrote back thusly: "You have my permission to use my material on your WWW site as long as you maintain links back to my original. Please use the URL below." I changed the link above, so that we may temporarily be doing the right thing, but given the nature of a wiki, it is hard (impossible) to guarantee that a link will be maintained properly. Anyone might delete it, and we might never notice it.

Notice that he also doesn't explicitly say we can modify his work, either. So, although I'm going to leave this up for now, pending further conversation with him, it is likely that we'll be taking this down.

I'll bet we could find someone with a good article on Jupiter who wouldn't mind that we use it, no strings attached. --LS

Order of importance[edit]

The first list, untitled, seems to contain things of reasonable interest, important enough for a general encyclopedia, relegating more specialised, or vanity, items to the named categories further down.

I'd like to move the two towns down to miscellaneous, and to add, as a new ‘important’ entry, the magazine Jupiter, edited by ‘Tom Towers’, in Trollope’s Barsetshire novel The Warden. John Wheater 09:23, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IMO, the two towns are things of reasonable interest, etc., and should remain in the first untitled list. If this new magazine does not have a Wikipedia article of its own, I would place it in the Miscellaneous section, and then only if the linked article mentions it (so The Warden rather than Barsetshire. -- JHunterJ 11:47, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Project Jupyter[edit]

I referenced this disambiguation page while looking for "Jupyter Notebooks". I had listened to a talk that made a verbal reference to "Jupyter Notebooks", and was unaware of the proper spelling.

Is it appropriate to place a reference to a homophone in a disambiguation page? If so, could someone please add the link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Jupyter

If this is not appropriate, could you explain what other resources someone might use to find this link?

Mercury is a disambiguation page but Jupiter is not.[edit]

"Mercury" has more than one meaning that is very commonly used, so we consider it to have no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. "Jupiter" has one meaning which stands well above the others in how frequently it's used, so it does have a primary topic. -- Fyrael (talk) 14:56, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jupiter (god) deserves a main entry rather than just a piped mention in the introductory sentence, but where do we put it? At the top, because it's the most likely non-primary meaning? #Fictional characters, at the risk of offending any remaining worshippers? #Other uses, where no one will find it?
