Fair use rationale for Image:CBI - SERIES C - FIVE POUND NOTE.PNG[edit]

Image:CBI - SERIES C - FIVE POUND NOTE.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:48, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Seán Ó Ceallaigh mentioned in this article is this guy or there still isn't any article about him on Wikipedia? --PeterCantropus (talk) 16:06, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That is still doubtful: needs clarification. If he wrote it in America he could still be resident in Ireland.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 07:53, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's doubtful. I'll have to do a bit more research on it, but the Seán Ó Ceallaigh who wrote mise raifteirí was unable to return to America, to the best of my knowledge. --MadaRuadh (talk) 14:41, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That translation is inaccurate. For example 'Dul siar ar m'aistear' means 'Going west on my Journey', 'ciúineas gan crá' certainly does not translate as 'lonely I rove, ciúineas being the irish for Silence as any Irish schoolchild knows from being told to shut up by teachers. I don't feel confident enough in my irish language abilities to translate it properly but perhaps someone else can. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.250.227.20 (talk) 02:51, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's a very loose translation at best. I could give a more literal translation, if noone has any objections?--MadaRuadh (talk) 14:43, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Best translation I can do (with rusty Irish admittedly):

I'm Raftery, the poet (closest English translation file is much larger than poet), full of hope and love, with eyes without light (blind), silence without distress (deaf).

Going back over my journey (looking back on my life), with the light of my heart, faint and thirsty, to the end of my way (to my death)

Look at me now, my back to the wall, playing music, to empty pockets (people without anything themselves).

This while admittedly not completely accurate and using English grammar rather than a literal translation is a lot closer to the true meaning. By no means is it official but my Irish is not yet that degenerated.188.141.58.135 (talk) 22:16, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The previous translation was way off and different from the one in the reference. I've changed it based on my own knowledge of the language (rusty Irish speaker), what was actually in the reference and the comments here. 63.156.217.195 (talk) 04:26, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
