Hi - we need details of the permission granted etc. Secretlondon 20:09, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Did they say just for wikipedia - or that they were releasing under the GFDL? Secretlondon 20:16, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I assume you're referring to Image:Aplysia californica.jpeg and Image:Aplysia californica thumb.jpeg. If so, I've just added those details. Thanks for the reminder! --Diberri 20:21, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi there. Just wanted to thank you for your note on the new user log, and let you know that we're happy to have you here! Wikiholism, thankfully, is not a fatal addiction, unless you count the effect on one's offline social life ;-) Isomorphic 04:15, 1 Apr 2004 (UTC)

WikiDoc[edit]

Hi, I'm trying to get some medically inclined folks to join a project to resuscitate the Medicine side of Wikipedia. Some info can be found on the temporary page WikiDoc. Please drop a line on my Talk Page if you feel like it. JFW | T@lk 01:33, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for your talk page message. Also, compliments on the Budd-Chiari syndrome dab - I rushed my editing of that page. I'm presently reading a review of the disease, so I'm hoping to integrate some of that in the article and un-stub it permanently.
I've introduced a "blue box" in medicine. Please comment; considering you're working on the "basic science" level, how about something similar in the health-related sciences (anatomy, physiology, etc.)? After I got some help from Danny and Angela (see talk page) it turned out to be hugely easy.
JFW | T@lk 09:42, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. The WikiDoc plan would indeed be to link all the subfields, and I think the converse holds true for the physiology area. We had terrible physiology teaching in university, so I'd be delighted to read up on - especially - cardiovascular physiology! I support your proposal for "blue boxes" for every organ system. A major task is ahead, but I think it will all be worthwhile in the long run. JFW | T@lk 21:28, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Diberri, you're doing amazing work with the "blue boxes"! JFW | T@lk 18:47, 15 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Just noticed how you removed - and then reverted - some organs from {msg:endocrine system}. This is not a bad idea; of course the gut is active as an endocrine organ (CCK, VIP, 5HT, ghrelin), but this is hardly its main function. Perhaps it might help dividing the "primary" and "secondary" endocrine organs... Just a thought. JFW | T@lk 23:14, 15 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hi diberri, I just noticed some of your new Blue Boxes are not yet listed on Wikipedia:MediaWiki custom elements. Couldn't find the time to add them myself :-(. JFW | T@lk 01:22, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Serum into plasma[edit]

Hi Diberri, I'm thinking of redirecting serum to blood plasma and adding more about the difference between the two on that page (as for lots of purposes they're the same).

I would have done it a year ago, but i wasn't quite sure how things worked back then! (not that i am now) :-) T 04:27, 11 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Fetus/foetus[edit]

I'd add it back, and no big deal. I suspect "foetus" is in the OED, but unfortunately I don't have a copy to hand. The issue will work itself out in the long run without my input anyway.  :) - Hephaestos|§ 01:57, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Actually, in Australia at least, it's spelled "foetus". There was not even an entry in our dictionary (the Macquarie Dictionary) for "fetus" - it's just not used. I suggest you look at American and British English differences - it spells out the differences there for all to see. - Mark 02:14, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Organ system boxes[edit]

hi, I was looking at your boxes and I was thinking that maybe there should also be boxes for subsystems. I made an example below. What do you think? Fuelbottle 21:52, 16 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Cardiovascular system - blood

red blood cells - white blood cells - platelets - blood plasma

  • Hi I will do what I can, but I'm not a physician so there are some things I'm unsure about. I will post boxes at user:Fuelbottle/boxtest as I make new ones. Fuelbottle 12:42, 17 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I've added the boxes to Wikipedia:MediaWiki_custom_elements now, thanks for reminding me :)

LDH and Elastase[edit]

Hi Diberri, I was wondering if you had any comments on my rewrite of lactate dehydrogenase. It was terribly stubbly and I expanded it. Do you agree with my generalisations in the section on exsudates and transudates? JFW | T@lk 12:49, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Further to the above, I've finally taken some time to write elastase (after writing A1AD and A1AT and virtually all related items). Any comments? JFW | T@lk 14:09, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Compliments on all those tiny glitches in A1AD, A1AT and elastase. Hey, I love this system of peer review! My native language is Dutch, so it is educational to see what mistakes of mine get corrected.
I've been trying to get accross to Steve Holland to look at some of my gastroenterology additions (hepatitis, Heyde's syndrome), but he seems to have been dewikified since 15/4 (or 4/15, as your compatriots prefer). JFW | T@lk 19:57, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for your Baby message, as well as your feedback on the A1AT-linked burst of articles. Really appreciated.
Further to your comments, I've modified Heyde's syndrome quite radically. Upon rereading I found it much too historical and not clinical enough.
PS How did you get that pretty picture of lactate dehydrogenase? I'd really like to get something similar for the "enzyme" articles I've worked on(A1AT, G6PD etc.). JFW | T@lk 23:16, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)

In Heyde's syndrome, 1953 was a mistake. It was 1958 on second reading of my literature. I've been unable to find an associated OldMedline PMID code; they probably didn't assign codes to letters.
Thanks for your advice on RasMol. I know what I'll be downloading in a few minutes :-). JFW | T@lk 23:44, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Spinal muscular atrophy[edit]

Hello Dave, As I advised you about music:album previously I thought that I would see if you could reciprocate. I was trying to find if their was a page about Spinal Muscular Atrophy (I believe it may be related to Duchenne's muscular dystrophy) a disease from which one of nieces suffers. I couldn't seem to find an article regarding this and thought I may get my niece to write a brief article in the hope somebody with more medical knowledge would like to expand it. I didn't want to do this if there was already an article that I couldn't find.???? Scraggy4 10:56, 25 Apr 2004 (UTC)

This page seems to indicate that nothing has been written on this... http://www.fsma.org/ might be a good bet JFW | T@lk 20:21, 25 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Nice work on MVP!! Its not a condition I as much about as i should, so it was a good read! please forgive my little play as i read through it (just cause i can't help myself really). just two things I couldnt figure out that you may wish to clarify:

Not sure what this means: "Patients with classic mitral valve prolapse have extra connective tissue in the spongiosa that tends to separate collagen bundles in the fibrosa."

also not sure what this means:

When asymmetric prolapse leads to enhanced deterioration of the mitral valve

best wishes e 11:17, 18 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

you're very welcome re the comments - its nice to read a high quality article and learn a bit! btw I think your use of the word enhanced may be a bit off target. enhance implies that somehting good is happening eg 'enhanced oxygenation' or 'enhance perfusion'... 'enhanced deterioration' is a bit confusing... do you mean 'more rapid deterioration'? does that make sence? best wishes e 01:51, 19 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

MedlinePlus[edit]

Hello, Dave! Thanks for all your great work on medical topics. However, I've noticed that you've used an image from the MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia. Sadly, although it's on a .gov website, MedlinePlus is not in the public domain: see the copyright notices on the MedlinePlus site. It's irritating, as most other U.S. government medical info is in the public domain: but you have to be careful to check. Could you please help to remove these images from your articles, and any other MedlinePlus text you may have used in error? -- The Anome 12:37, 4 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Business analysis[edit]

I can't find anything on the net that shows it's a copyvio, not even the name at the top of it. I've listed it on VfD anyway, because it's original research and POV. RickK 00:35, 11 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Sysop[edit]

Congratulations! After getting 100% support on RfA, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. Good luck. Angela. 21:37, 16 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Congratulations, Dave. Make good use of it! JFW | T@lk 22:12, 16 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Bill O'Reilly[edit]

Actually, whoever runs lyingliar.com copied hijacked what we had at Wikipedia for his own purposes. Take a look at the history of this article since October and it is obvious that we have continually edited O'Reilly "traditional views" over time. Especially telling is the fact that he forgot to remove the link to Wikipedia's article on October 18! The guy at lyingliar.com just swiped what we had. --Rookkey 16:44, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Test no. 2[edit]

I presume this will some how get to Diberri in the near future...

I am reading about wiki in general and I just wanted to see how quickly a small defacement would be reverted. hence my change to the Anarchy page.

Apologies for the inconvenience :)

You took, like, less than a minute to revert my change. I'm impressed.

How did you know? were you looking at the page at the time? Is the page in your list of notify-me-if-it-gets-modified pages or something?

Mick. (micksa@knobbits.org)

  • People watch Recentchanges. I spotted your defacement of Anarchy and was only a few seconds behind Diberri, and then I watched your contributions [1] to see if you were going to deface anything else -hence why I spotted you posting here SkArcher 15:06, 29 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Yup, I was watching Special:Recentchanges. I also spend a fair amount of time at Special:Newpages, too. That way, vandalism and other miscellaneous testing is caught pretty quickly. It's always amazed me how fast Wikipedia vandalism (and testing, in this case) is reverted. I read somewhere that an IBM study estimated that most vandalism is handled in under five minutes. --Diberri | Talk 03:35, Jun 30, 2004 (UTC)

well if my "test" annoyed you, you might feel better knowing that you helped to convert me :)

I haven't contributed anything useful yet, but I'm sure I will in good time.

DDAVP[edit]

I have little to add... I must say I have little experience with the drug. I only know it for the indications you've mentioned. A molecular structure would be nice - it's just a nonapeptide with some modifications, right? JFW | T@lk 13:41, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Beijing Normal University[edit]

The new page of Beijing Normal University that I added was copied from the school's website directly which is not copy-right protected. pangguan pangguan | Talk July 28, 2004

Actually, the copyright exists whether or not it was explicitly asserted on the website. So unless you have express permission to license this material under the GFDL, it may not be used on Wikipedia. --Diberri | Talk 17:52, Jul 28, 2004 (UTC)

Three letter abbreviations[edit]

Well, yes. But I think the numbers say something; they make clear the scope of the pages being discussed and the problems inherent in actually using them, speaking as a user. And besides, he did say that the numbers themselves are encyclopedic, so there they are. :-) - Kenwarren 03:25, Jul 31, 2004 (UTC)

Absolutely. My saying that the numbers weren't requested was really a tongue-in-cheek comment. Your smiley suggests that you understood that. IMO, the numbers aren't terribly encyclopedic, but I suppose they are relevant to the discussion of whether TLA lists belong here. Thanks for posting them. --Diberri | Talk 09:24, Aug 1, 2004 (UTC)

Freenode ban[edit]

The Freenode K line you mentioned is purely an internal Freenode matter. I am afraid that I cannot expedite your processing. However, if you try again you may get a connection to a different server where the K-line is not in effect. I also suspect your ban may be related to multiple connections from one IP, rather than /names, but I cannot be sure. =/ Email staff@freenode.net and/or wait it out. - Fennec (はさばくのきつね) 23:30, 6 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Texian[edit]

Hi... Thanks for your comment about Texian. Yeah, I weighed the Wikipedia-is-not-a-dictionary issue when I saw you had put the redirect in... But I think the information there needs to be in Wikipedia somewhere, lest people go around correcting "Texian" as a spelling error for Texan. I'm not sure having a separate article is the best thing but it seems like the most sensible thing to me right now...

total godsend[edit]

hey, re: list of wheaties athletes, you're a total godsend for writing that perl script. and the (s) apparently stood for 'special olympian' though i have yet to figure out what the other abbreviations meant. it was a pdf to html thing from general mills (on the wheaties site it's a shortened list). ill go back in and keep adding dates, sports, and info as i get to it, but thanks so much again poroubalous 05:05, 11 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Tomé José de Barros Queirós[edit]

I didn't. You must not have noticed the "Moved to" in the edit summary. User:Joaopais moved Wikipedia:How to edit a page to that title, presumably as a test. I moved it back and thought I'd leave the redirect for a few hours so the user wouldn't do it again (and yes, I've warned him about inappropriate page moves, and yes, I would have deleted the redirect right after logging in today). Moving pages automatically creates a redirect from the original title to the destination. Hope this clears things up. -- Hadal 17:25, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)

No worries; and hey, thanks for deleting the redirects for me. I also recall auto-generated redirects being all-caps, but I suppose that must've changed. The real problem, of course, is that page moves aren't recorded in any meaningful way, and that leads to confusions like this. Oh and well. Cheers, -- Hadal 17:42, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Kahan Commission:[edit]

With all due respect, I think you are being a tad unfair about revisions to the first sentence. I contested your claim that it is a sentence fragment and reverted back. Now it is subject to discussion before future reversions. Your request for me to not revert it on sight is essentially what I had already requested of you earlier on. Please see the KC discussion for further details.

accident. I was trying to replace my old article which was a copy and paste job of someones website. All my work now

Hi Diberri. For context, User:Soloist had uploaded several pages which were copied from web sites. He didn't realize that this was in violation of copyright. Now, he rewrote the content on the pages and replaced the copyvio. I reverted his changes, copied the content to temp pages, and reinstated the copyvio. I think this is the best thing to do. It seems that Soloist also created some of the content on temp pages and on the page in violation, and that's why the strangeness about him creating a temp page. --Timc 19:40, 25 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Explanation, and apology for rude behaviour reguarding Autism[edit]

Hey sorry, indeed I wanted to get the article down to 32k or less, also the contreversies article was in my opinion incomplete, and the correcting of that will require another article and is being done now.. im sorry for my lack of manners though I'll try to learn ettiquette in future

Cheers memzy

The page is now finished in its current version, and I thought id ask your opinion? Theres been a small team of us working on it, but the tone and style as usual are set by the last person to have 'cleaned up' the text ;)

So I'd love your opinion, since you showed an interest in what I was doing from the start :) Also Id be ohnoured if ya cleaned it up some, many eyes make for fewer bugs ;)

memzy: It would be news to my ears if the contreversies article itself was copied wholesale from anywhere, the only text I believe not written by myself or friends in the last day would be what was already there, and yes the autism page itself was merely refined. The new content was added to a new page.

I apologize for the confusion, and would like to thank you for making me aware of the controversies relating to the autism page ;).

Thanks for you useful advice, take a look at my user page now :P lol I might add more later, hope ya the first to take up the offer of contacting me though :) Thanks for ya help, Dave

Pillar of Autumn[edit]

The reason I put a speedy delete is because it made no sense to me. Apparently it has something to do with the game Halo (according to future edits), but anyone who's never played it wouldn't know that, and even if it does refer to Halo, the article still doesn't make sense the way it's written. Additionally, after a search, I discovered this is a copyvio. CryptoDerk 18:28, Aug 26, 2004 (UTC)

Well OK. To anyone who has played Halo it might just look like a bad article. To me it looked like some weird story. I probably should have checked on google first (which I eventually did, hence the copyvio), but I've probably been reading BJAODN too much, so I'm skeptical.  :) CryptoDerk 18:53, Aug 26, 2004 (UTC)
