Its an interesting little article, but I really wonder whether this deserves an encyclopedia entry. Its not really a concept. Its just an insult, or joke. Should we putevery racial/social categorical insult that exists in Wikipedia? I'm not really certain of the guidelines here - maybe you just put in anything anyone can think of.

I think it has some value, at least for now- someone encountering the reference in Buchanan's speech or elsewhere might reasonably want to look it up to find out what it refers to. It's silly, yes, but it has some current relevance.

Are you sure that's the first time he used the term? I think I've heard the term before 2002 - like in the late 90's. crazyeddie 23:11, 3 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Link doesn't work. --Soldadito de Plomo 20:02, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I just don't get his reasoning. How can Canadians be anti-American? I don't know O Canada. Does that make me anti-Canadian? --cuiusquemodi 03:19, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Merge[edit]

Anti-Canadianism now exists and has survived an AfD. I think the bits and pieces surrounding the topic should be merged there to make it a decent page. This can left as a redirect. Marskell 10:14, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Strongly disagree. Wiki is not paper. I fail to see how merging articles that can stand perfectly well on their own is helpful to wikipedia users. On the contrary, doing so defeats one of the principal strengths a wiki has over linear paper documents.
I am putting a wikilink to Anti-Canadianism here because Marskell didn't provide a wikilink in their comment. Okay, I just checked out Anti-Canadianism. It is, currently, a weak article. Once the incorrect reference to Voltaire is removed it will be an even weaker article. Meanwhile Soviet Canuckistan is a fine article, just the way it is. -- Geo Swan 14:42, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Uh, what the problem? Sorry for no wiki-link. Guess I'm an idiot and you're vote has been noted. Wiki is not paper and Wiki is also not an indiscriminate collection of information. This page is a "fine article" based on a one-off quote from Pat Buchanan that, I'd guess, a majority of Canadians have already forgotten about if they heard about it in the first place. Support merging. "Soviet Canuckistan" gets only around 600 unique Google hits, but this content helps to explain anti-Canadianism. If you feel Anti-Canadianism is a "weak article", merging it with something will make it better. CanadianCaesar The Republic Restored 03:21, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
