Neutrality?[edit]

Early name[edit]

I see that I made no edits the last time I visited this page. I was very new to en.WP then , and may not have done my first edit yet. The page has come a good way, but still has a lot of issues.

There at one time was an historical marker in Oxford, AL, east of city hall, as I remember, which told the story of the first name: about some hunters who made camp, and left a skillet behind while they hunted or explored. On returning to their campsite, the hunters observed a bear licking out their skillet. Hence the name. This may be hard to document: the classic apocryphal tale. The town may never have been incorporated under the name Lick Skillet, but it seems unlikely that the historical commission would have an expensive sign erected without library research, etc. I am far away, but maybe someone can visit the library...rags (talk) 02:42, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
