2004 Summer Olympics medals count by International Organization

Delete this as well. It appears to have only been created to argue the toss over European Union Olympic medals count for 2004. Is someone going to create a table listing medal winners by shoe size or hair colour? Mintguy (T) 01:24, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Yes, it addresses the NPOV problems inherent in European Union Olympic medals count for 2004, but it's still original research and, while it isn't misinformation per se, it's still misleading information, pretty much by definition.     • As for there being nothing significant about these totals they definitely told me some things I hadn't realized myself -- e.g. that the African continent and the Caribbean has gotten exceptionally little medals. And the CIS count, deeply flawed though it may be, helps as possible comparison to the old Soviet Union. Aris Katsaris 20:05, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
      • I'm sticking with my delete vote (as expressed on VfD:EU-Olympics-2004), as I don't think the totals are very revealing, due to the noted problems with addition. But since I do agree that grouping medals by continental organizations might show a trend (although nothing of a useful statistical nature), why not come up with a "medal density" map of some sort? It could show those countries that have received lots of medals in a dark color, those with few or none in a light or white color, and one could see the things you noticed about the African/Caribbean (and possibly CIS) medal totals at a quick glance. Since it would just be a pictoral representation of the medal count, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with its existence (although I am hoping it would be replacement for this and the EU page). -- Mike J. 23:57, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
    • On another note, how is this "original research"? Wikipedia:No original research seems to define what's going on here as a secondary source (assimilation/synthesizing of various other sources), which doesn't, to me, anyway, break that boundary. -- Mike J. 23:57, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
      • comment: I suppose you're right. I was probably defining "original research" too broadly. I was going by the fact that "medals by international organization" counts are made-up statistics (even if the numbers are derived from verifiable facts). — Gwalla | Talk 08:20, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

    • That's your second vote on this page, though I know you did it accidentally. But could someone please tell me why the hell this page is still on vfd after more than a month?
