Image[edit]

I think the word Simulation is meant to be simulation.

Mechatronics in the last 5 year has grown massively across europe and US. High employement levels are likely to be the norm in the coming decade. Gradutes with a good education in this field can look to earn two times the average salary if they have at least an HND (Higher National Diploma)in this field

Mechatronics vs. Systems Engineering[edit]

How is Mechatronics different from Systems Engineering? How about Electro-Optical Engineering, Robotic Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Radio Engineering, I-pad Engineering, You-Market-Your-Product Engineering, etc. Can Mechatronics truly be as a separate and distinct form of Engineering, particularly due to lack of serious accreditation? --71.245.164.83 (talk) 00:08, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, systems engineering is something that works in parallel with all other branches of engineering.Where else Electro-Optical Engineering, Robotic Engineering, Automotive Engineering are basically subsets to Mechatronics engineering that's why sooner or later with advancement of automation Mechatronics will ultimate be accredited to the position it deserves. Mechatronics vs. Robotics[edit]

By excluding references to robotics, this article doesn't make a very convincing difference. The hallmark difference is autonomy vs. automation? Mechatronics Student[edit]

I am an undergraduate engineering student just finishing up a course in mechatronics. I wouldn't say that mechatronics is really an independent field yet. It combines elements from different areas like controls, electronics, and robotics. It's all about the integration of mechanical and electrical design, and there's really not anything unique to mechatronics that can't be studied within another more established discipline. A typical mechatronic system will have electrical components such as a microcontroller or circuit system that take input from one or more sensors and actuate a physical effector. The Center for Intelligent Mechatronics at my school works on projects such as designing semi-automatic actuated limbs for amputees. The limbs contain several accelerometers and gyroscopes to aid in dynamically changing the orientation of the leg joints based on the height of the leg, etc. LogisticsMarmoset1729 (talk) 03:31, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mechatronics "evolves" into a catch all engineer degree by employers, educators, and engineers?[edit]

Over the years I have seen some large engineering projects “evolving” from having a team of individual disparate engineering disciplines into catch all buzzword job titles where an engineer wears several hats (stacked hats). For instance the Space Shuttle could technically all be built by mechatronics engineers rather than using a team of specialized engineers (CS, EE, ME, ...) if the definition of Mechatronics is broad enough. The main concern is over the next few years, some simplistic employers, educators, and engineers may see mechatronics as a “one size fits all” hot ticket engineer and forego the specialized engineering expertise provided by other engineering disciplines needed to properly complete some engineering projects. This is likening to using General Practitioners instead of Specialists in all medical situations and then wonder why the patient died during open heart surgery. Because of this there should be a clarification in this article of what not only can mechatronics do successfully, but more importantly what it cannot do as well as other engineering disciplines to avoid confusion. Multidisciplinary vs. Interdisciplinary[edit]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Mechatronics an interdisciplinary field? Relationship to Biology, "astrobiology" and Enzymes[edit]

I had a strange "spiritual experience" noting that this specific interdisciplinary subject was focused strongly on the relationship between biological machinery and "logically better" computer technology based on things like DNA and enzymatic operations. One day "biology" was listed among things like "electrical engineering" and "mechanics" on the top line; and on the next day it was not simply missing but was "specifically excluded."

I am not sure if I live in a world where that should happen, or is happening, or could happening--but I am sure we are in a world where it should be openly discussed and things like "neural technology" should not be allowed or able to be used for evil purposes.

Humans should never be tortured; neither should cats or mice. I don't see our society agreeing with me, my response to that lack of "vision of strong and broad agreement" is a fear of something worse than total thermonuclear annihilation of the entirety of our civilization .. actually already existing here.
