I've tagged this for lack of verification rather than fact tagging each line because the issue is not specific lines are not verified, the issue is that there is no verification or sources provided whatsoever. I'm not familiar with Coronation Street, other than the fact that it is a UK TV show, so I'm not sure where to begin with sourcing, but a good start would be to link the website for the show...--Isotope23 20:11, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pat Phoenix - Cancer Diagnosis[edit]

Pat Phoenix was not diagnosed as having lung cancer before she left the Street. In 1983, the actress had a breast cancer scare - but this proved to be groundless. This was recorded in the tabloid newspapers of the time. née Grimshaw?[edit]

I removed the unreferenced 'née Grimshaw' (and supposed parents' names) as the origin is non-canon novel 'Coronation Street: The War Years' by Daran Little. The only references to this are from the novel and quotes of this wikipedia article. Fanx (talk) 06:53, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Death ref 2[edit]

Although it was mentioned in last night's episode of Coronation Street by Dennis that Elsie had died 6/7 years ago in a car crash with her lover Bill Gregory,this is not exactly true...Because in the 1987 video special entitled 'The lives and loves of Elsie Tanner is was very much hinted at,in fact almost made clear that she had died around that time.Correct me if I'm wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.78.131.191 (talk) 01:45, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes but would Bill Gregory be driving a sports car at 90 years of age,that in itself sounds very strange.I for one believe that video was a tribut to the character of Elsie's demise.Emily and Mike both said 'Sorry to hear about your mother'.Maybe Coronation Street just forget their continuity. And? I've also watched this episode you mentioned. She could have had a break down, life threatening acident, a seperation etc... If a source is found from a coronation street source explaining she died back then, then it will be okay.Rain the 1 ^BAM 21:36, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The things I think about when I'm in bed lol. I was thinking that too, that "Life and Loves of Elsie Tanner," which I watched last week, was from around the 80s, and Emily and Mike Baldwin had said they were sorry to hear about Elsie's death. I'm guessing that it's a case of the producers retconning. The 2004 date is the one that is part of the official continuity. The spin-off videos were never a part of the canon as they contradict facts that had already been established in the show and they were often retconned later, as with the case of Elsie's death date. The video itself was made purely as a tribute after Pat Phoenix's recent death and I don't think there's ever been any indication in the show that Elsie was dead up until Dennis' return.
