Album name[edit]

how is the name meant to be pronounced? -- Tarquin 14:59 17 May 2003 (UTC)

As "      ", of course. How else?
I've heard it called "Parentheses". Omphaloscope 5 July 2005 14:57 (UTC)
I've always just called it "the untitled CD" or "their untitled CD"

"Brackets", "Parenthesis", "Untitled Album" or just nothing at all (just a gap while speaking) Fantom 22:35, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"The Spy Machine"[edit]

What is "The Spy Machine"? -leigh (φθόγγος) 20:35, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)

Yeah I also want to know where that came from. -ZepAn
"The Spy Machine" is what "Njósnavélin" means. "The Nothing Song" is an alternate title for this track.
Yeah but where have people got these names from seeing as all the tracks are officially untitled?
[1] explains it well. R Calvete 05:58, 2005 July 11 (UTC)
the article should explain that the alternate titles are how the band refer to them (even though they're unnamed)

Differant variants?[edit]

Should we add some information on the differant variants of the album: like the fact that the EU, US, Japanese, and Aussie releases each got a differant coverart? Also, Iceland didn't get any unique coverart, but all four releases were actually sold there commercially. There was also a 2002/03 Spanish pressing by Karonte which had the album housed in a digibook with 94 (!) pages of contempery art.

There is a link to the Spanish Version here. http://www.popplagid.com/graphics/CDbook1.htm Endlessmug 14:07, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mogwai Itunes Tracklisting[edit]

Is it just me who finds the “fake” track listing on iTunes to be completely irrelevant to the album page? I think giving just the real track names is sufficient enough. Endlessmug 14:20, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Album written while touring AB[edit]

All the songs in ( ) were being developed during their Ágætis byrjun tour. By the time they were recording these songs in the studio for a release, the band had played them MANY times before. Endlessmug 14:20, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vonlenska[edit]

All the mention of the English interpretations of the Vonlenska should be on the Vonlenska page only I think. It just seems to be a little irrelevant being there is no true interpretation. Endlessmug 14:20, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the debate was Move Duja 10:12, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

( ) (album)( ) — Petition to move back the page to its original location. I do not feel that a distinct disambiguation page is necessary; the ( ) (album) page already had a link on the top to ( ) (film). The album sold half a million copies. 74.109.173.23 00:52, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support The film is borderline non-notable.  Anþony  talk  11:25, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Who cares? If that article is deleted due to non-notability, then move the album to (). -- Kicking222 00:16, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose () is a completely valid disambiguation. There's no reason for the move. -- Kicking222 00:16, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Although there has as yet appeared no evidence that the film title was in any way derived from the album, the album is far more widely known and appeared first, and is IMO the primary meaning. Andrewa 11:09, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Add any additional comments:

As an aside, I notice that all of the references are from the band itself, yet there are four independent reviews. You should be relying on those primarily, not information from the band.  Anþony  talk  11:27, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to move page to ( ) (album)[edit]

I am not convinced that this is the primary topic since ( ) usage as "brackets" is surely more common outside this genre of music. Therefore, I propose that ( ) be moved to ( ) (album) and this page ( ) be used to disambiguate between the three topics (the third being ( ) (film). Review criteria[edit]

Is there any criteria for including/excluding review scores? I'm referring in particular to Robert Christgau's score which is accompanies by the review which simply states "?_;@$.is" which doesn't seem awfully informative for the sake of this article.108.170.160.126 (talk) 05:53, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

– there's also ( ) (film), no primary topic here. Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 15:10, 22 July 2014 (UTC) In ictu oculi (talk) 06:49, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong support "( )" is highly ambiguous, being a manner in the world at large, that people also specify the space character, a blank character, parentheses, the matrix operator, set operator, empty set, etc. -- 65.94.171.126 (talk) 05:32, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • RedSlash's alternate proposal of pointing to parenthesis is also acceptable, thought I'd prefer the disambiguation page. -- 65.94.171.126 (talk) 04:14, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support... umm... seriously? this isn't a redirect to parenthesis? Red Slash 05:42, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • To clarify: Oppose the move of the disambiguation page. Redirect this to parenthesis. Red Slash 09:40, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose I think in this case the Sigur Rós album IS the primary topic. The film is barely known and the current hatnote on the album page works fine. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 08:52, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Surely parenthesis is the primarytopic? --Richhoncho (talk) 22:41, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support redirect to parenthesis per Red Slash and Richhoncho - I think a very strong case can be made for the proposition that a reader typing "( )" into the search window is actually looking for information on parentheses. bd2412 T 03:27, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support; it is highly unlikely that an unfamiliar reader (like myself in this situation) would assume the plain title ( ) is referring to this album. Adding the disambiguator would definitely eliminate confusion that is likely to result from this confusing naming. WikiRedactor (talk) 22:21, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Red Slash's suggestion. It's quite reasonable to assume that people searching for ( ) are actually searching for parentheses. kennethaw88talk 03:09, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
