Sorry, didn't cite source there. It was the CPN (gasp) quoting a government spokesperson, from memory. It was supported by a third party news report that quoted an anonymous British military source stating that the CPN was basically going to take the country. I have read so many reports on the place in the last week or so they kind of blur together, but I recognise the importance. I will try to dig some sources up tomorrow, if I have time (it will be circa 24 hours from now ...) -Pratyeka 14:33, 28 Nov 2003 (UTC)

While I don't support communism, I can understand to some extent why the Maoists started the war. I went to Nepal in 2002 and saw some of the living conditions and definitely something should be done about it. However, on the other hand, war and violence are never the answer to a problem. When we trekked into Lukla from Jiri, us westerners were never confronted by the Maoists although we knew they were out there among us. Unfortunately, they did harass our guides and sirdar out of our sight (they later told us once we were above Lukla). I have been reading The Kathmandu Post stories on their web site and with all the violence and killing of innocent people by the Maoists, how can the Communist Party rightfully call it the "People's War"? Yes, User:Horses In The Sky did one. However, there are many details of the Nepalese communist movement that are somewhat shady and undocumented, making such an attempt a little difficult. What would be needed is a Communism in Nepal article, defining all the different splits and groupings. --Soman (talk) 08:36, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
