Earlier comments[edit]

I personally share this article's anti-Bond sentiment, but IMHO the general tone and language (e.g. "salted away") aren't really appropriate for a Wikipedia article. Bond's track record is damning enough without the need for loaded language. --Calair 01:11, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I've copy edited it and removed the notice. Wincoote 11:04, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Current Ventures[edit]

Don't overlook about the ambitious current ventures with which Alan Bond is involved such as diamonds in Lesotho and onshore oil in Madagascar. See artcles in the West Australian and elsewhere.

Toohey's[edit]

Is Toohey's available anywhere in the USA anymore? I remember its giant cans quite fondly from when I was just old enough to drink many years ago and haven't seen it in quite a while. This article brought back old memories. Rlquall 02:45, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism of the page?[edit]

The page has been changed to remove all references to the massive criminal case for fraud for which Alan Bond went to gaol. Since it's pretty much common knowledge in Australia I'd say this is pretty notable. I'm hesitant to just revert though since there seems to be some good stuff in the modifications as well. --60.241.171.45 00:39, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alan Bond's Police convictions at aged 14.[edit]

I have a scanned document from the W.A. Police Gazette December 1952 where Alan Bond fronted Perth Children's Court 05/09/1952 on charges of Unlawfully on premises and stealing and was committed to 2 years in an institution. It also staes in the records that he did have priors for stealing. Should this be on the page? It is public record also. Quite ironic really! Stevefrommelbourne (talk) 06:58, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Intersting. But I'm not sure it should be included here. It sounds like a primary source and thus counts as original research, so would violate WP:OR. Has anyone else reported it (e.g. is it in Paul Barry's biography of Bond?)? How can you be sure it's the same Alan Bond as the subject of this article?--Amaher (talk) 07:52, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's been reported in the Fairfax media (SMH etc), I think that counts as a reasonably reputable source, I'll add it to the article. Drpixie (talk) 05:35, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lippo Centre[edit]

Was the picture taken in 1987 or did Bond buy it in 1987? Picture caption requires updating. Anyone know the answer?? Thanks, Boatman (talk) 07:47, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dud citations[edit]

I had to delete this dead Macquarie News (Livenews) citation, owing to this September 2009 report that the broadcaster has pulled the plug on the website. Also this one from The Australian was a defunct link. The content is still adequately supported by an SMH citation. In any event, Bond's return to riches seems to have been short-lived, as per a new Adelaide Sunday Mail citation I've added. Cheers, Bjenks (talk) 07:48, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Police do not release names of dead people[edit]

..when the deaths are non suspicious...i spent 20 years in the police and i know for a fact. why would they? if it's not a coroners matter then the body is not their concern. by all means do what you will but i was lead to believe facts could be submitted to wikipedia. this appears to no longer be the case. every newspaper in the country has released the news of the death of his wife but not here? we need a new free online enclopedia — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.213.61.196 (talk) 04:35, 29 January 2012 (UTC) Yes that does appear to be the case in most circumstances. This matter may be a coroners matter though. But police have nothing to do with the majority of deaths that occur that is a fact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonken (talkcontribs) 03:43, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ages[edit]

The ages given do not agree with the theory that his sister was the elder. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.183.204.30 (talk) 17:31, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 9 June 2015[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Move. We have consensus that this is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Cúchullain t/c 20:17, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

– Of the 4 Alan Bonds listed on the dab page, 2 are redlinks so can be ignored as potential primary topics. The other one is an engineer, who gets about 15-30 page views per day, with very little coverage in secondary sources other than a single TV documentary. Before his recent death, the businessman was getting over 100 per day on most days, obviously a huge spike in the last few days. Google counts are impossible to use, due to the blanket coverage of his death. The-Pope (talk) 13:23, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - Page views (taken from before the subject's death to avoid recentism bias) support the nominator's claim of a primary topic.--Yaksar (let's chat) 03:13, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I do not see a problem with the current set up. When people read an article on Alan Bond the engineer he is simply described as "Alan Bond". It may seem odd for people searching for him to instantly find themselves at the businessman's article. I also think that time may tell who has more notability in the future an entrepreneur who supported a historic sports event or an innovator who has contributed to developments in a field of technology. Were it not for the America's Cup involvements I would have given a high likelihood that the engineer would be the one to retain notability. GregKaye 06:14, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Bondie is notable for his exploits beyond winning that mug, his business exploits which is part lead to the downfall of the WA government - imprisonment of its premier. The engineer hasnt achieved anywhere near the global impact that the business has. Gnangarra 14:07, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support The businessman is clearly most prominent now. As per normal practice when we disambiguate a pair of articles, a hatnote will redirect people looking for the engineer, so they won't get lost. When the engineer gets lots of publicity, or more prominent Alan Bonds get articles, we can revisit the decision. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 16:44, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. A very high standard is needed before a disambiguation page entry is elevated to a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, otherwise every dab page would have one. Such an elevated level of importance/notability/prominence has not been met as far as the names listed upon the Alan Bond dab page are concerned. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 19:35, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Moving information about Bond Corporation to new page?[edit]

Currently there is a redirect for Bond Corporation to here, however I think the corporation is notable enough to deserve it's own page, especially when compared to similar companies such as Qintex — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bravetheif (talkcontribs) 14:02, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
