Career start[edit]

"Francis was "discovered" by television presenter Davina McCall, who got him regular appearances on MTV UK. This kick-started his television career."

Are you sure? Francis did characters on a T4 programme called Buzz in 1999 (http://www.music-bx.co.uk/buzz.htm) and was on a regular comedy sidekick in the early days of Popworld. I'm not sure Avid Merrion didn't debut on a E4 series called Show Me The Funny (which Jimmy Carr also got his TV break on). He did do MTV slots, but I'm fairly sure this was only recently.

Tne Bear is not based on Ronnie Corbett, this is proved on the Bo' Selecta Series 2 DVD when on the commentary the show producer says that it is not based on Ronnie Corbett. Any similarity is mere coincidence.

(In response to the previous unsigned comment) I first saw him on Dom & Kirk's Night O Plenty playing the character Bobby Stark (on The Paramount Channel). That aired from January to July 1996 (I just added the date to the page). I first saw the Avid Merrion character on one of the Big Brother shows (Big Brother's Little Brother maybe?) during Big Brother 3 (May/June/July 2002, he would have made his first appearance in June'02) playing the part of an obsessed Jade fan. I first saw Avid Merrion, Keith Lemon and Barry Gibson on Whatever I Want, a late-night show on the Carlton region of ITV, which ran for six episodes in 2000. It was written by and starred Leigh Francis. Avid Merrion appeared in six slots per episode, of about one minute each, ~~stalking~~ waiting for celebrities, with objects of relevance to the celebrities which he wanted them to sign and from which he encouraged the viewer to guess who the celebrity was. The connection to the celebrity was usually a bad pun (napkin + lump of coal = Nat King Cole; my doner = Madonna). Oktal (talk) 15:56, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Craig David[edit]

One of Francis's most famous characters is Craig David. In 2008 he stated on the television show "Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack" that he is "not allowed" to sing the name "Craig David" as per an agreement with David's management. [is this right?]

Laimonis Mierins[edit]

Well I've just watched tonight's episode of Comedy Map of Britain where Leigh Francis revealed that many aspects of Avid Merrion were modeled on his former teacher, Laimonis Mierins. Does anyone know how to properly cite a TV show? Aula ^TPN 22:43, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Marriage[edit]

The only family members mentioned in the article are his uncle and mother-in-law. If he has a mother-in-law, he must also have a wife, yet there is no mention of her. What is his wife's name? When and where did he marry her? Werdnawerdna (talk) 22:47, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tidy-up[edit]

This whole article desperately needs tidying. There are are numerous grammatical and spelling errors as well as blatant mistakes - Lolly Stark = Bobby Stark? The whole first paragraph makes no sense.

Why is there mention of "a beautiful nephew with a mushroom haircut"?

Ten years have passed since the tidy-up notes above were made, and the article seems to have been tidied up and these notes are all that remain (without digging through the article history). And here I am, as a voice from the future as it were, and I've been laughing at the "a beautiful nephew with a mushroom haircut" comment for about 15 mins now. Racism![edit]

I was of the impression that blacking up and ridiculing a person of colour was racist! The difference being, Craig David had talent. Izaak has no talent and should not be on our TV screens, he's not funny, unless you are a moron, he is forced onto us by ridiculously stupid and narrow minded TV executives.
