St Andrew's Church lamp-post & Narnia[edit]

St. Andrews lamp-post, inspiration for Narnia lamp-post

I have removed the following paragraph from the article (and its associated image):

Bebington also has a claim to fame in that St. Andrews church yard features the lamp-post that was supposedly the real-life inspiration for the lamp-post in C. S. Lewis's The Chronicles Of Narnia.

This unverified statement was added by an anonymous IP in May 2006 and has been tagged since December 2007. Since then, no citation has been forthcoming, with only the lamppost image added a few weeks later. If anyone can provide any reliable sources to verify this statement then please restore it to the article. Thanks. Snowy 1973 (talk) 12:44, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Definition[edit]

The article needs to have greater clarity over the different definitions of Bebington that exist. The former municipal borough covered a much wider area - see the large map in the article on Civil parishes in Merseyside - than merely Higher and Lower Bebington, for example. It is not "nonsense" to say that places like Port Sunlight, New Ferry and Spital are part of Bebington - historically, they certainly were. Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:59, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not from the area but as you mention "The former Municipal Borough" this is historical, can be recorded as so, I guess, but all these places are independent areas for sureBabydoll9799 (talk) 23:02, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am from the area, and old enough to remember the former borough. What do you mean by "independent areas"? They are all part of a single urban area. Ghmyrtle (talk) 23:04, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Independent in the sense they are not part of Bebington! IE Port Sunlight is Port Sunlight, Wirral and not Port Sunlight, Bebington Babydoll9799 (talk) 23:08, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You mean in terms of postal address? That's fairly significant, but not the whole story. Many people write "Oxton, Wirral", for example, but it's still part of Birkenhead. Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:14, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
True, ie New Brighton. But these are places in their own right like Moreton, West Kirby, Heswall, etc. Babydoll9799 (talk) 11:38, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"Places in their own right" is a meaningless expression - but, there are inconsistencies in the article. For instance, the ward boundaries for which the population is shown - see here - is far smaller than the old borough. My point is that the article should explain these differences in definition, rather than trying to impose a single definition. Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:03, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
PS: I've now added a short explanation of the differences. Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:16, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
