Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Persian dog

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Persian dog listed on WP:VFD July 12 to July 18 2004, consensus was to delete. Discussion:

The page claims that there is a certain kind of "Persian dog" [1] which is known as Akbash [2]. While both a google search of "Akbash", and both "Persian dog" and "Akbash" [3] give many pages which claim Akbash is a Turkish name of a certain dog of Turkish origin, "Persian dog" proves to be mainly a funny imitation of "Persian cat" [4] or calling names. The claim about the dogs living in "Great Salt Desert" is clearly a joke, since the area is so hot and waterless that even germs have a hard life there.
BTW, the person who created the page has a very pointed view toward Iranians, and has created another ridiculing article, Persian Nation. -- Roozbeh 23:14, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)

  • Delete - The same user has created numerous completely false articles, and has altered some correct articles to his pointed versions under at least the following names and/or IP's: Emilkhan / AytanKarahan / 198.81.26.9 / 198.81.26.17 / 198.81.26.41 / 198.81.26.44 / 198.81.26.74 and others. His "contributions" have not only ruined a number of Wikipedia articles and created new false ones, but also this person has caused a number of Wikipedia admins as well as regular contributors to waste signifant amount of time because of him, time that would normally have been used in a positive way to contribute to improvement of Wikipedia. --K1 23:58, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)
  • What a freaking idiot. Speedy delete all as patent nonsense and ban this so-called "user." - Lucky 6.9 00:32, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)

  • Delete: It sounds like it's supposed to be a national slur. --Geogre 00:43, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. Or rather, rename as Akbash, which appears to be a genuine breed of dog. I can see no reference to it being called the 'Persian Dog', though.--Noisy 01:51, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)
  • I was going to vote "move to Akbash"... but there's really nothing here that isn't factually incorrect. So Akbash now redirects to the new stub Akbash Dog, and Persian dog can be safely deleted. -Sean Curtin 06:21, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)

  • Well the abkash does appear to be in use - probably under a different name - in Western Iran, but is a shepdog, much like the kangal/gammal or karabash. Both are obviously not desert dogs. Could there be a mess up with the Faluki dog? A hunting dog, similar to greyhounds or great afghans, mostly bred by Beduins and other desert dwellers? I know that there are a fair amount of breeders in Iran, the shah had several of these and the writer might have gut his/her bearinsg all wrong... probably all three kinds of dogs might benefit from an entry, but not under the title Persian dogRefdoc 16:21, 14 Jul 2004 (UTC)
