Re: cannabis not being beneficial to the lungs: Your objection is both beside the point and somewhat inaccurate. As it was based on smoking (burning), please note that using a vaporizor (which evaporates the cannabinoids without burning any plant material) does not release any of the crud that is released when burning plant material and has no negative effects on the lungs. This is becoming a more common device, especially for medicinal purposes and recreationally as well. As the "effects" section lists only effects of the drug, by whatever method of administration, the statement of beneficiality is valid; I am going to expand my discussion of this, and the qualities of various methods of administration, such as the dangers of smoking, as I proceed to revise the rest of the article.

Second, as regards smoking, there are two qualitative differences between the smoke of tobacco and cannabis: THC vs. nicotine, and levels of radioactivity. First, nicotine itself is simply a very toxic substance to the body (note that it has a low LD50 relative to other substances, whereas THC has a high LD50), and there is increasing evidence that it actually promotes cancer by reducing your bodies defenses against it. Despite what I noted in the article (which I will remedy, with more information), the studies which indicate that THC can promote cancer are largely invalid, whereas the studies which indicate that it can help prevent cancer are much more recent and have been experimental protocol, although the evidence is far from overwhelming and the jury is still out. Secondly, nicotine constricts the same air sacs that THC dilates, thus holding the crud and radioactivity (which I will note in a bit) in smoke, whereas THC enables the lungs to release it effectively. Second, tobacco leaves have radioactive elements which are extremely dangerous when inhaled (as one might expect). Long story short: tobacco is fertilized with phosphates which have various levels of, if I remember correctly, radium which decays into lead-210 and polonium-210 (of these two elements I am sure), both of which have half-lives of decades and stay in and circulate throughout the body, but are especially concentrated at the base of the lungs due to smoking. Heavy tobacco smokers have ~8 times the level of radioactivity in their urine as non-tobacco smokers. Needless to say, this causes problems, especially cancer. A former surgeon general has said that 90% of tobacco-related cancers are caused by radioactivity.

Cannabis is used by many to relieve certain kinds of asthma, and for some, smoking is their method of use, although a vaporizor is, of course, much better. Centrx 19:46, 14 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Unattributed statement

In reference to Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, the section on the five factions was taken from the Canadian Senate committee report, which in turn took that information, and that brief quote (about the manufacturing states group's strategy to "shift as much of the regulatory burden as possible to the raw-material-producing states while retaining as much of their own freedom as possible"), from W.B. McAllister's 1999 book, Drug Diplomacy in the Twentieth Century: An international history. The citations have now been added.

Separation of Church & State

Why is this disturbing? I don't see any reason for a national church. By all means have churches but they shouldn't be intertwined with the state the way the Church of England currently is. Bishops in the house of Lords are fine, but should be appointed by merit (or elected) and not a product of the fact the CofE is the national religion. -- User:Alex 6/3/07

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

In an attempt to make the UK Parliament page more honest and accurate, a user persistently removed my edits without just cause. The information I removed was untrue and misleading. If you care to view the history page you will see exactly what I mean. This person whoever he or she is is allowing false information to remain on your wiki page. Because their user privilege is greater than mine currently they locked the page. I am writing to request you do not allow this to happen when I readdress the issues on the page, if this is at all possible.
