I'm not entirely sure this church is a cathedral, as I didn't see any reference to a bishop or diocese on its web page. Also, nobody can seem to agree on exactly what world record this church breaks. - Montréalais 20:05, 29 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Fair point on height: I think it is the highest domed cathedral rather than highest cathedral. I have however met the bishop although his relationship to the two papal delegates in permanent residence is obscure to me - BozMo(talk) — Preceding undated comment added 07:28, 1 May 2004‎

This church's website gives its height as 158 m while Ulm Munster is 161 m and Sagrada Familia 170m (if that part is finished. Rmhermen 23:57, Apr 29, 2004 (UTC)

Norte-Dame de la Paix is not the highest church in the world - see German list of the highest churches. But it is the largest (see Guiness World Records) 68.165.95.210 17:51, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)

This article should be moved to its proper name of Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro or Basilica of Our Lady of Peace (or its official French derivative), as it is officially listed by the Vatican registry. It would also be easier to guard against confusion over the vast many, more notable historic churches bearing the name of Notre Dame. --James Easton 20:14, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Contradictions[edit]

- "The cost of the basilica doubled the national debt of Côte d'Ivoire", and later the article states - "The president personally financed the basilica project."... So which is it? The state paid for it or the president? The comment about the debt is demonstrably untrue. This site has the debt for each year since 1975 https://www.ceicdata.com/en/indicator/ivory-coast/national-government-debt and you can see that not only was the debt too big to have the Basilica be a major contributor, BUT, the debt didn't double. In fact, it went down. I'm going to edit the statement, which is thinly sourced by a Guardian article with no underlying data stated. Sethgodin (talk) 19:42, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

During the 34 year reign of Felix Houphouet-Boigny (1960-94) the state and the office of the president were essentially synonymous in Côte d'Ivoire. Finances in the country were largely distributed through networks of patronage with the president at the centre. In effect this meant Houphouet-Boigny treated the states funds as an extension of his own personal wealth. Stating that both the state and the president paid for the cathedral is then not a strict contradiction, because of the way the government was set up at the time. Major basilica?[edit]

I thought that only the four basilicas in Rome (St. John Lateran, St. Peter's Basilica, St. Paul outside the Walls, and St. Mary Major are ranked as major? Did nothing with Côte d'Ivoire's external debt[edit]

The artcle has these sentences: "The lavishly built basilica sits in the middle of the African bush in an impoverished city where only a minority of homes have running water and adequate sanitation. The cost of the basilica doubled the national debt of Côte d'Ivoire[citation needed], but many of the country's Roman Catholics are proud of the church." Well, in 1990, the external debt of Côte d'Ivoire was about US$10 billions.While, the price of this cathedral was about US$300 million, or about just 3% of external debt of Côte d'Ivoire when this cathedral was opened.Agre22 (talk) 15:06, 10 September 2008 (UTC)agre22[reply]

We can change the text. The $8.8 billion dollar figure is widel reported and could be tracked down, I think, to a good source reasonably easily. It comes, as far as I know, from the CIA World Factbook and the Library of Congress Country Studies, which are pretty authoritative. It is important that we correct this. The error is becoming more and more widespread on the Web, and the source of the error is here.
