WikiProject iconThis category is part of WikiProject Evolutionary biology, an attempt at building a useful set of articles on evolutionary biology and its associated subfields such as population genetics, quantitative genetics, molecular evolution, phylogenetics, and evolutionary developmental biology. It is distinct from the WikiProject Tree of Life in that it attempts to cover patterns, process and theory rather than systematics and taxonomy. I guess I can see a role for this category: it is supposed to include articles about evolution in a general sense, including non-biological evolution (otherwise it would be redundant with Category:Evolutionary biology and I would call call for it's deletion). However, it must be parented! the question is where? --Lexor|Talk 15:39, Jan 8, 2005 (UTC)

I have no idea. Perhaps the history of philosophy project Stirling Newberry 15:42, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Note: The cat will have articles that are critiques of evolution, the diambiguation page should not. Stirling Newberry 15:53, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

One thing I want to avoid (and another reason that this category has been deleted in the past) is people adding articles about biological evolution to this category, they should always use Category:Evolutionary biology (unless it includes substantial information about non-biological aspects), but I'm afraid that people are lazy and will see this category and add them here, and I have to keep moving them, so we should somehow note this fact on the category page (or this page). --Lexor|Talk 15:59, Jan 8, 2005 (UTC)

I've moved Bathybius for that reason. It's interesting for biological evolution, but not evolution as a whole. Some biological evolution articles should be here - top level treatments, and probably Darwin and some others - because these are important to the idea, taken as a whole. But it will probably be necessary from time to time to patrol the category and push articles to Evolutionary biology that get dumped here.

Interesting thoughts on categories. I would put systems theory as a sub category of evolution, but I think philosophy of science is an excellent parent category. Stirling Newberry 16:26, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Chicken or the egg?[edit]

Category:Evolution should be a subcat of Category:Evolutionary biology. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 08:15, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Evolution takes place in more fields than just in biology, thus Evolution is parent, I agree as it is (vote ;). Franta Oashi (talk) 02:34, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
