Should the opening sentence say that physical and mental events are to be reduced... (as it does now) or that they can be reduced.... Saying that they are to be reduced sounds apocalyptic. Wesley

And what's with using the word "stuff" --Tothebarricades.tk 21:00, 23 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I removed the mention of reduction, because AFAIK, neutral monism need not be reductionist. Added William James (from Oxford Dict. of Phil., 1996). Jussi Hirvi 18 July 2005

Added Fred Ayer as another proponent of Neutral Monism, the view is discussed in Language, Truth, and Logic as part of Ayers criticism of metaphysics.--69.246.166.61 04:55, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article is accurate[edit]

The article is very accurate and has the necessary references, so I'm going to remove the stupid banners. When will people stop putting up these banners and apply their energies to improving the articles? Bill Wvbailey (talk) 17:24, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Spinoza[edit]

Can we try and expand the views of Spinoza in this article? There is a lot of confusion throughout wikipedia about what his views are. --131.128.178.229 (talk) 20:19, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Whitehead[edit]

I would envisage AN Whitehead being included on this page. 121.73.139.145 (talk) 10:20, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ramachandran[edit]

To my knowledge Vilayanur S. Ramachandran is a self declared neutral monist, given his influential work in the mind body relation I believe he could deserves a mention in this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.195.96.40 (talk) 21:33, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Apparent duplication on or from a Princeton web site?[edit]

Does anyone know why this article and others appears to be duplicated word for word on (or from?) this [1]

Apologies, due credit for WIkimedia content is given at the foot of the page, I missed that! Good to see our content begin used widely.

William James quote[edit]

I went back a long ways (2009) into the history. This "quote" seems to have been written by an editor, or cribbed from somewhere, and then (many) someone elses attached the quotation to James. I did a search in the book specified at the link, on the word "rock", and the searched returned nothing. I am going to expunge the quote, and hang a "expansion" banner on it. There is a lot of good stuff in the book, so there should be no problem in finding a suitable quote. BillWvbailey (talk) 21:30, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

David Chalmers[edit]

Why is David Chalmers in this article? He is not a monist but a dualist, as mentioned in Philip Goff's book "Galileo's Error". Vorbee (talk) 07:44, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

He isn’t really committed to any particular view. He argues for property dualism in his first book, but he has also shown in interest in panpsychism, neutral monism, and illusionism. A.gee.dizzle (talk) 16:47, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
