Untitled[edit]

His second and third wives were actresses, but cannot confirm Kim Schmidt as a professional actress. Will replace this info with employment cited in Hollywood Babylon (art gallery employee). Please cite references as requested in every edit page so facts can be checked. -- 172.151.108.253 02:18, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC) Zosodada 02:19, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC) (forgot to sign in)

She is listed on IMDB with 1 uncredited role as a policewoman. I would take it with a grain of salt until confirmed elsewhere. 69.42.34.157 (talk) 04:42, 18 July 2013 (UTC)History Lunatic[reply]

the term 'suicide pact' suggests that his wife was a willing participant. I have never seen this suggested anywhere. Can it be confirmed?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.99.134.241 (talk) 22:34, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe I missed this in the article. How is this name pronounced? My mom had a friend nicknamed Gig and she pronounces it "jidge," rhymes with fridge. Just curious. Never heard of this guy until I read the article on the Osborne Apartments today.67.189.148.191 (talk) 21:36, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think?[edit]

about this guy's one and only edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gig_Young&diff=75414359&oldid=72758665 It really changes the whole ending of the story of Gig Young's suicid, doesn't it? --Vlad|-> 22:32, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

His suicide at The Osborne, 205 West 57 St. is correct. I was the v/p of the building at the time, and was sitting in my apt. across the courtyard from his apt. when I heard the shots. The super Gus came to me, and told me that a gocery order was about to be delivered at Gig's door, and at the knock these shots were heard. He asked what he should do, should he go in with his master key to see what was up. I said call the president of the building, Mike, who worked at Macy's. He did, and I spoke to him too, and he said do nothing until he gets home from work. Privacy issues. And so the door wasn't opened for several hours. I've often wondered if they were immediately dead, and could have been helped, but I don't know what the autopsy showed. The police found evidence of drugs and jewelry and gun paraphernalia, but it was all generally hushed up. JohnClarknew 20:13, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My involvement with this is totally peripheral. Kim Schmidt may have had German parents but she went to school in Melbourne, Australia and she was, never an actor although she may have appeared in a film. In the late 1970s she lived in Hong Kong and we were on a friendly but not intimate basis. She was very much the sexy flirt and had an on-and-off relationship with Gig Young who, she told me, was teaching in an actor's school in New York. It was not smooth going and she was, at one time, practically living on tranquilizers. Her death (murder/suicide) three weeks after the marriage shook me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.209.170.2 (talk) 06:15, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't find it[edit]

Wikipedia, you said on the day he died, Gig Young taped an episode of the Joe Franklin TV show. After that you said he went home and committed the murder suicide. I am writing this because uou said,"the show exists and is in the Joe Franklin Archives".
Well, I searched File:Eye.gif for hours and couldn't find it. What a waste of my time.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by MyWebBits (talkcontribs) 03:26, 8 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Unclear[edit]

North Carolina?[edit]

OK, why in the heck was he buried in Western North Carolina after his death? There is no mention to any ties to NC that I can find. Was some of his family from there or something? --Brownings (talk) 09:49, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Find a Grave shows he is buried in a family plot; his father and mother are there as well as 2 others I would guess are a brother and uncle. 69.42.34.157 (talk) 04:38, 18 July 2013 (UTC)HistoryLunatic[reply]
The page at this link explains everything. Although he was born elsewhere & his family spent a little time in DC, he was actually raised in NC from the age of 6 as that's where his family was from. He's buried in a family plot with his parents, siblings and an uncle. I will add the info I found with citations.PhilOSophocle (talk) 17:16, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Movies filmed during World War II[edit]

This is really fishy: if he was a Pharmacist's Mate in the Coast Guard from 1941 to 1945, how was he able to make movies in 1942 and 1943? Chris the speller yack 06:04, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is a page from the National Archives listing several "Persons of Exceptional Prominence" (I.e. famous people) who have served in the US Military and what branch they served in. This is a list of those whose records are available for purchase and is not inclusive. I imagine the NA set up this page precisely because there are many inquiries about the famous peoples' service.
At any rate, Byron E Barr aka Gig Young is listed in the Coast Guard. To verify the dates of enlistment and discharge as well as his duties, one would have to purchase the record. The record would also show where he was based. I suspect he served late in the war, post Old Acquaintance.
Other than bit parts, Gig had 3 substantial movie roles during this period: The Gay Sisters (1942), The Mad Martindales (1942), and Old Acquaintance (1943). These dates are release dates of course, not production dates.
It's worth investigating if you have the time and money. But he was definitely in the Coast Guard.
