Béatrix de Cosenza[edit]

In para 2 of the article, it says that Flecknoe met this woman, who was the wife of Charles IV, Duke of Lorraine, in the early 1640s, but the Duke wasn't born until 1643, and married someone else in 1678. The Duke of Lorraine during this time was Nicholas II, Duke of Lorraine, but he married Claudia. I wonder if the correct person is Charles III, Duke of Lorraine, although he was no longer the Duke by the 1640s. -gadfium 05:56, 4 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Encyclopaedia Britannica[edit]

Some EB articles are notoriously unreliable, as appears to have been the treatment of Flecknoe in EB1911. One instance of careless research there is the item mentioned above; another was the assertion that he had fled to Ghent in 1640 to escape the English civil war, which did not start until two years later. It was not a good idea to let that EB text of over a century ago stand any longer, and it has been almost wholely replaced with referenced facts, as suggested by the template from May 2014.
