full table[edit]

Why is the "full table" of medals much smaller than the one provided in this entry? Did only ten countries win medals? Strange...--Nertzy 08:42, Aug 31, 2004 (UTC)

There is a link under the table to a separate page with the full medal list.
The above (old) comment does bring up the point that having the Top Ten medal listing could be confusing for some people. The full list for these games is only 16 columns long, and the entire 1976 Winter Olympics medal table page is short enough to fit in this page easily, which would eliminate any chance of confusion.
Is a separate page for the full medal table really necessary? I realize that in the summer games, and in later winter games, the list becomes quite large. Having a separate medal table page for each Olympics does maintain consistency, which may be a good thing. However, I think it would make sense to have the full table on a page like this. Eventual Change to Host City Requirements[edit]

It should be noted that part of the reason that Denver voters rejected the bond to build the venues for these Olympic games was the requirement, in effect at the time, that all events be held within X number of (I can't remember for sure but it was something like 20-40) miles of the host city. In spite of the common misconception that Denver is in the mountains it is not. In 1976 the closest ski resort with anything approaching world class standards was over 100 miles away, thus every single venue, both alpine and nordic, were going to have to be built from scratch. By the time that Calgary hosted the 1988 games this requirement had been dropped which is why they could hold the bulk of the alpine events at previously existing facilities close to Lake Louise over 110 miles west of the city.MarnetteD | Talk 19:08, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

"security paragraph"[edit]

I don't understand as it is written how 9/11 factors into this story. Lambertman (talk) 22:52, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I deleted the refs to Montreal/SLC and 9/11. But I may go back and change it: security is not a main theme of the Innsbruck Olympics.-Cbradshaw (talk) 23:12, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
