USS Izard (DD-589)

Hi. You changed "On 18 December 1944, she was caught in the Typhoon of 1944, but survived." to the less specific "At one point, she sailed through the eyewall of a Pacific storm that had 50 knot winds." Was the storm misidentified?

• Yes thanks, my father was a quartermaster on the Izard (and is now 80 years old). I had queried him earlier about the typhoon that he had said they were in and so had earlier added the mention of it. We got together this weekend to see "Flags of Our Fathers", the movie about the Battle of Iwo Jima that the Izard was a part of. The movie spurred his recollection of various details. He had also been to an Izard crew reunion recently in Ohio. As part of this discussion, I asked him about the typhoon. He said that it was not the typhoon that had sunk the ships, but instead was a smaller storm with 50 knot winds that they had sailed through the eye of. He was unclear on the date. He also recalled the detail that he had joined the Izard in mid-late March at Pearl, so I added that detail. Brholden 18:59, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

• You are welcome - I was surprised that the article was just a stub given that he is on the Forbes 400 list. The dates of his degrees are listed in the press release at: http://www.scjohnson.com/family/fam_pre_pre_news.asp?art_id=151 His age and "hometown" are listed in the Forbes 400 link - you could put his birthdate as "circa 1958". He should also go on the Cornell people page given that he is an emeritus trustee and a CEO. Brholden 00:26, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

SC Johnson Brands

I have editted Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_November_28#Category:S.C._Johnson_brands to make the debate decision clear. Now how does one actually get the category moved. TonyTheTiger 17:53, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

• Moving the category is easy, you just change all of entries one by one to the new name and add a new category. I assume (but don't know) that one of the admins will actually remove the old category entry once the change is done. However it could also be left pointing to the new one. As I said in the entry, while I have a preference for "SC", I am OK with any of the three choices ("S.C.", "S. C.", or "SC") - since there wasn't a clear consensus on the discussion and no entrenched positions, go ahead and choose your favorite. Brholden 20:08, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

August Kutzbock

Way back on 4 December 2007, you added information to the article on Evansville, Wisconsin, naming August Kutzbock as the architect or designer of the Evansville Seminary. I have recently been making additions to the August Kutzbock category page in Wikimedia, including the Seminary. But now I've noticed that an online article about the Seminary doesn't mention Kutzbock and names other individuals as the designers and builders. <http://evansvillehistory.net/EvansvilleSeminary.html> says this about the original red-brick building (1856-57): "Only a few of those who worked on the building were named in histories of the school. Jacob West's son, James R. West designed the building and also served as a carpenter. James West and George Murphy installed the first floor timbers, made the doors and window frames. Alan S. Baker, who would later become a prominent manufacturer, sawed the decorative brackets that supported the over-hanging eaves of the building. Baker was paid three dollars a month and his board as compensation for his work." And about the cream-brick addition (built 20 years after Kutzbock's 1868 death), it states: "By 1888, the funds had been raised and a white brick building was constructed. William Libby was the carpenter-contractor. Libby's sons worked on the project with their father. Isaac Brink did the mason work." Hello, There are basically no non-notable SCOTUS cases. SCOTUS rulings are central to American Jurisprudence. There should be a page about every SCOTUS case in the entire history of the US. There aren't that many per year and there there are only 240 years or so. It is ridiculous to delete a reasonably well written yet starter page for one of these cases. Can it be improved, sure but don't delete it. That would be completely going in the wrong direction. Brholden (talk) 23:42, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
