Chess template Translate aid[edit]

Hello I am working at first on es.wikipedia.org,

Can you help me with information about how to translate the chess board template?

I affraid the little images with this is based are not in wikimedia:commons, either in en.wikipedia, then the traslation to other languages are hard. Is this correct?

Can other wikipedias use templates from other languages?

Thanks

A copy of these questions are on the chess board template discussion.

I've replied at Template talk:Chess position#Translate aid. dbenbenn | talk 23:23, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

In [1] the chessboard is stored at "Bild:Zugzwang.PNG" in german WP. Ok, I know I should transport it to commons. hopefully I will do it in near future. I created this board with the software ChessBase 8.0. -- 192.77.114.102 07:45, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC) (user tsor from german WP)

In the template talk:Chess position I have written a notice on the Danish chessboard. It uses the same way of insertion, but has different colours and a more "closed" look with border and letters/numbers on all sides. DK-User Sir48, profile in English
The Danish template and tiles have been uploaded to Commons. You may find the template here and a guide to using it on the talk page.
In addition, you may combine the English template with the Danish brown tiles, because they have been uploaded as well, see template:Chess_tiles_brown. If you change the image name in the English template from Image:Chess_xxxx.png to Image:Chs2_xxxx.png you will have the boards in brown colour. (But without the frame etc. from the full solution above) DK-User Sir48, profile in English

I moved our dialog from [2] to [3]. Please lets discuss there. Thanks. - BTW: I have answered there. -- User tsor

Transparency and figures merging[edit]

Hi, I ask you about this technical question because you are much more advanced in this than me.

Is possible to make a template able to merge two images (one or both images should be a mask with transparency features) in order to display one image?

More mad question:

Is it possible to merge a image with a table of images in order to construct masks? This is very important in chess diagrams standars and the capability to construct chess diagrams with additional graphic explanation. Reference Commons:Talk:Standard chess diagram - supplement#Technical solution to be researched Thanks. --GengisKanhg (my talk) 19:10, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is possible. See Vail, Colorado for an example. It should be easy to modify the template that page uses for chess boards. dbenbenn | talk 21:06, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Resources for photographers[edit]

Hi Gengiskanhg,
Good to see another phtographer joining the force! With respect to image resources on the web, I'm afraid my knowledge of them isn't quite as good as it could be - I'm pretty much a photoshop man relying on it for my image editing. With respect to the Image:Female Emperor Gum Moth.jpg, the white bg was achieved using photoshop. First you make a second layer which is the color you want the background (in this case white). Sit that layer underneath the layer which has your original pic, and then carefully at about 300% magnification erase the existing background around the subject. The white layer will become visible through this. This method obviously takes a long time, but has the benefit of the option to change color of bg at will. There is an "easier" way, but it requires a background of the color you choose. For instance these photos: Image:Bananas white background.jpg, Image:Onions.jpg, Image:Raspberries02.jpg were taken on a white painting canvase (canvas is good because you don't get reflections). The benefit of this besides the quickness is that you get a realistic shadow. There is a third option for doing this, but you probably wont be able to achieve it with your camera. You need to shoot your flash from a close distance onto your subject. But the important part is that you have to set your shutter speed/aperture to a high value. The light from the flash will quickly disperse and due to the high shutter speed the background without the benefit of the flash will become v. dark through black. See this photo for an example: Image:Day old chick black background.jpg.
Back to your original question, I can't offer more than going to download.com and check out what they have. Most of it is shareware but some is freeware. Hope this helps somewhat. If you need more help I'd suggest contacting Solipsist or Diliff. --Fir0002 www 22:56, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
