Paul August[edit]

final (38/0/0) 22:17, 2005 May 31 (UTC)

This user has good statistics (see below), but more importantly, he has good administration skills. This includes his people skills, which are outstanding — at least for a mathematician. ;-)
(I became aware of him through his levelheaded conflict handling in a recent case.)

Statistics:

  • 8482 edits
  • 10 months of editing
  • 840 edits/month

Thanks, I accept. Paul August 00:17, May 25, 2005 (UTC)

Comments

  • Firstly, Sebastian seems to have signed the nomination from the future. Secondly, Paul hasn't accepted. Third, and I'd just like a quick answer, what is the (top) thing about? Thanks in advance. Harro5 00:15, May 25, 2005 (UTC)
    • (1) Oops, this was just a mistake. I changed the date according to the instructions, but mistakenly changed the wrong occurrence. Sorry about this, this was the first time I ever did this.
      (3) See Top rate. Please keep the discussion of that proposal on that page. That proposed criterion is independent from and not endorsed by the candidate. — Sebastian (talk) 00:35, 2005 May 25 (UTC)
Never mind! I deleted the top rate from this page. — Sebastian (talk) 03:37, 2005 May 25 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. I would try to help out with VfD and speedy deletion maintenance, etc. I already do a fair amount of vandalism reversion, I have nearly 1000 pages on my watchlist, and I've tried to add pages that have a high rate of vandalism. I've spent a fair amount of time on RC patrol, less so lately, but would probably do more with access to the "rollback" feature. I am on WP for many hours each day, and I would be happy to respond to requests for admin help.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. Some articles I've made significant contributions to, which I'm fond of, include: Attalus I (featured article),Phocaea, Zeno of Elea, Demetrius of Pharos, First Macedonian War, Set, Algebra of sets, Constant function and Integer. I'm an active participant in the WikiProject Mathematics, and one of the founding members of, and contributer to, the PlanetMath Exchange Project. I've also, now and then, spend time on WP:FAC, helping articles like Battle of Alesia become featured. I helped to create the archive processing on the Village Pump, and was, for a few months the principal archivist. I'm also honored to have received a WikiMedal for Janitorial Services for work on "This page contains a link that might be mis-punctuated" (fun to do while you watch TV).
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
A. Nothing particularly significant that I can think of. No edit wars. Less than a handful of edit disputes. No stress.
