There was a serious confusion between the Ventoux and the 1,3 L "Cléon fonte". That's why I removed most of the text. Ericd 00:06, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)

There was an error in this article. There is a confusion between the Ventoux engine and Cléon-Fonte engine. The Ventoux engines have no higher than 845 cm3 cylindered. Engines are superior cylindered Cléon-Fonte engine and not Ventoux engines. 1600 cm3 Ventoux does not exist, it is Cleon-Fonte engine!

I agree with Ericd. Between the time of his edit referenced above and my edit of 8 March 2009 much of this confusion was restored. In my rewrite of the article I attempted to rectify the confusion.

I believe the information added on 16 March 2009 by 189.38.238.160 is in error.

The Ventoux engine is recognisable by certain characteristics, distinct from the Renault Cléon engine.

  • The Ventoux has three main bearings; the Cléon has five.
  • The cylinders of the Ventoux engine are arranged in pairs, with a wider spacing between cylinders 2 and 3, necessitated by the wide centre main bearing; the Cléon's cylinders are evenly spaced.
  • The Ventoux has camshaft drive by three gears, the intermediary idler gear being made of Celoron, a fabric-impregnated plastics resin; the Cléon has camshaft drive by roller chain.
  • The camshaft of the Ventoux engine extends through the crankcase on the flywheel end of the engine where it accepts a pulley which drives the coolant pump. The Cléon's camshaft bore is blind at the flywheel end, all belt drives being taken from the timing end of the engine.

On the page referenced by User:189.38.238, http://www2.uol.com.br/bestcars/classicos/corcel-1.htm it's stated: "O motor de quatro cilindros, longitudinal, com cinco mancais de apoio do virabrequim -- diferença para o anterior do Dauphine/Gordini, que usava apenas três...." I believe this confirms what I've said above: the engine in the Corcel is a Cléon, not a Ventoux.

In the interest of not starting (or continuing) an edit war on this obscure topic, I'm going to refrain from reverting User:189.38.238's edits (for now). I do believe these edits contain substantial errors.
