This is an informative, but rather US-centric article. The term 'dumpster' is not in common usage in the United Kingdom, where I would refer to it as a Trade-Waste receptacle, a skip or a rubbish bin. Can anyone shed more light on this, please? - Tim. 62.30.239.8 23:04, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)

The word dumpster is gaining usage in Britain (as is American influence in general) but the word would either be "bin" or "skip" as far as I'm concerned. -- Graham :) 23:08, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Simpsons reference[edit]

There was a Simpsons episode that referred to the Dumpster as genericized trademark issue. AIR, a character was found sleeping in one, and chided for this, replied, "No way, Dumpster brand trash containment units are top-of-the-line. This is just a Trash-O-Matic." I looked it up. It was the episode "The Otto Show," in which the following exchange occurs[1]:

Bart: Otto-Man? You're living in a dumpster?

Otto: Ho, man, I wish. Dumpster-brand trash bins are top-of-the-line. This is just a Trash-Co waste disposal unit.
