I've broken it into paragraphs, but I don't know enough about it to add any further detail. Joyous 23:30, Dec 21, 2004 (UTC)
It looks fine to me - there have been several edits since it was added here. --Jim Henry 18:33, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Merging this article as proposed would NOT effective!

Since the late 1960's, GDSS has been a global field of interdisciplinary studies hosted at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS)

Argument against merging into EMS[edit]

Merger should be the other way around. GSS is the more universal term. EMS never quite caught on the same way. The term EMS comes out of the Nunamaker et al. 1991 (se below) defining Electronic Meeting Systems. It was an update from the term GDSS (trying to show that these systems were not just for "decisions".) A year later, Jessup and Valacich (both students of Nunamaker) published a book (see below) that used the term Group Support Systems (GSS). This latter term seems to have more legs - though both pretty much mean the same thing.

So, the pages should be merged, but the label should be GSS.

Electronic Meeting Systems coined earlier[edit]

Opening paragraph states EMS coined in 1991 "An electronic meeting system (EMS) is a type of computer software that facilitates creative problem solving and decision-making of groups within or across organizations. The term was coined by Jay Nunamaker et al. in 1991". The below article published in 1990 names EMS in the context of GDSS and Group Communication Support Systems as forms of EMS. Suggest either the original text is either mis-referenced or incorrect.

It may not be necessary to nominate the coining of the term, but to adequately reference the first paragraph instead.
