Separatists[edit]

A substantial portion of this list consists of separatist groups. These groups should be removed. Just put the regular 'liberation movements' and then include a link for speeratist movements. 141.166.152.244 (talk) 16:10, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CfD[edit]

This category is in {{cfd}} as it contains mostly extreme Left-wing POV groups as well as many Terrorist groups that are listed in Category:Terrorism and Category:Terrorist organizations. IZAK 22:43, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)

First, i have to say, that the reason most of these groups are left-wing is that most national liberation movements are seeking liberation from centralized or external power, particularly power associated with 'free market' economics, and are consequently left-wing. Also, while it is true that many of these groups are marked as terrorist by the US government, that is largely meaningless. For one thing, there is no reason a group cannot use terrorism to persue a goal of national liberation. Secondly, the US government defines terrorist groups, de facto, as groups that use terror (or are accused of such) to pursue goals the US government does not approve of. Note groups such as the Death Squads in Guatemala and El Salvador and the Contras in Nicaragua, despite carrying out terrorist actions were not listed as such, but instead back, by the US government. Similarly, the ARVN reguarly used forced relocation and the destruction of civilianm property in their war on the NLF, but again were supported by the US government. That being said, anyone who has a right wing national liberation movement they would like to add, feel free, but don't just complain to other people; this is Wikipedia, if you have a problem with something, fix it. Palestinian sub-cat[edit]

There seem to be enough Palestinian groups here that it might be worth making Category:Palestinian national liberation movements. —Ashley Y 17:02, 2004 Dec 23 (UTC)

(former) national liberation movements[edit]

I feel that it is confusing that terrorist groups are mixed in with genuine NLMs, as well as movements that have achieved their goals and are now no longer NLMs (eg. African National congress).

I agree with you on the (former) part, as for terrorist part, polish resistance to nazi regime was in fact a terrorist movment. They used force to achive political ends. Beta m (talk)

Provisional Irish Republican Army[edit]

I think it would be best if the Provisional Irish Republican Army were included here instead of the Irish Republican Army since more people would be looking for the PIRA as opposed to the pre 1969 old IRA.It would also be a good idea to include the Continuity Irish Republican Army and the Real Irish Republican Army.I'd be happy with an IRA disambiguation page.Dermo6919:20 3 June 2006

Miscategorization?[edit]

Are some of the articles here ones that should be in Category:Independence movements? Andjam (talk) 12:39, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
