External links suggestion[edit]
I noticed in the article's history that numerous promo links have been added and removed. That makes sense because the number of free and commercial counters and trackers is astronomical. Would it useful to include one or two of the best review sites? For example:
- http://tellertest.com/en/ - in English and Dutch (Netherlands)
- http://www.mywebsite.force9.co.uk/ - a comparison of 3 free trackers which have a good reputation.

Review sites are not spam![edit]
This article is a target for spam, but the two non-commercial review sites are not selling counter services and would probably be helpful to visitors who read the article to find out what kind of counter/tracker to choose. -- 81.174.208.250 23:59, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

I agree. The 3 review sites listed include an adsense page that I can barely read and a good post about web analytics software (not hit counters as strictly defined by this entry). I cannot find a good reason why these sites should exist as I doubt few web surfers come to this page hoping to find a review of a simple program that iterates pageviews. - There are many Wikipedia pages that review software applications and include links to external review sites. Web counters are old hat, but is there a Wikipedia article that reviews web analytics software & services? My guess is that most visitors to this article are, like me, looking for info about trackers -- e.g. comparing Google Analytics, SiteMeter, etc. -- 80.88.199.237 (talk) 10:57, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

web traffic - merge?[edit]
I'm sure something can be done here. Maybe the pages can be merged? Or perhaps a stub marker can be added? I'm not sure how that works. web traffic

- The problem is that Wikipedia does not disambiguate to off-site unofficial pages, and there is no internally-available web counter. There is a beta version of a non-official Wikipedia article traffic statistic generator at http://stats.grok.se/. Blue Rasberry (talk) 00:11, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
