Doug Bennett was also a cartoonist with a local underground newspaper called the Georgia Straight coming out of Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Before starting his band Doug went to Montreal to concentrate on his art, but did not last long in Montreal, which I can understand having grown up in Vancouver myself. Vancouver is a hard place to leave.
