What is the dispute about?

Did I understand this correctly: The debate is about whether this very short stub should be sorted under "Mainland China" or "People's Republic of China"? Let me guess: The latter seems intuitively correct, but the former is the one mandated by the naming conventions, because Hong Kong is not under the jurisdiction of the PRC's MoF? --MarkSweep 08:53, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Then say so in the article. Hong Kong is part of the PRC. If some law, agency, custom, or whatever does not apply in HK, then SHORT explanatory text in the article is fine. If you need longer text, point to an HK specific article. Every country has national laws that do not apply in some jurisdictions. It's ridiculous to categorize the nation based on the exclusion of one internal jurisdiction. SchmuckyTheCat 14:25, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Basically all laws are not applied, valid and applicable to Hong Kong and Macao, unless for those stated in annexes III of the two basic laws (which are all about things like national enthem, flag, citizenship and emblem). Even treason and subversion laws are not applied. Mainland China is a legal jurisdiction on its own, and its courts have no jurisdiction over Hong Kong and Macao matters. — Instantnood 17:29, Mar 24, 2005 (UTC)

All ministries except the foreign affairs and national defence ones do not have power over Hong Kong matters. Customs policies, immigration control, extradition, etc., of mainland China are all not applicable in Hong Kong and Macao. — Instantnood 17:33, Mar 24, 2005 (UTC)

Backwards copy

While attempting to expand the article, I did some googling and noticed the last two paragraphs of the lead were almost verbatim present in a published book, specifically, page 14 of Introduction to Chinese Finance. The lead paragraphs were added in 2007 in this edit. In that edit, the chart in the Role section cites a now-dead MOF web page. That chart appears, unsourced, on page 15 of the book, too. I am reaching out to the publishers to see if they have anything to add or clarify. WhinyTheYounger (talk) 04:23, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
