Thank you[edit]

Thanks for the welcome, although I am not a new Wikipedian, as I am actually just the user Arthur Dent with a new username. I do appreciate the quick welcome and useful list of links. Ben Babcock 05:09, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

CBC News: The Hour[edit]

Just one little quibble: there's no such word as "receival". The word you wanted, believe it or not, is "reception". Bearcat 06:02, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

You're absolutely correct. Thanks for catching that. Ben Babcock 12:45, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

SOAP[edit]

I stopped watching SOAP because there seemed to be a too-many-cooks situation. Anyway, I basically like your proposed revision. I would suggest that you say more about why SOAP used to be a protocal and is no more than that. ---Isaac R 18:14, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I really wanted a rewrite/restructuring. Please note that it was 255 flights diverted to 15 airports, not 224 to 17. -- SNIyer12(talk) 23:43, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Concerning how many flights were diverted and to how many airports, I'm going by what Prime Minister Jean Chretien said in the days after the attacks, the news media, and the airports involved in the operation, not by Transport Canada. I agree with Chretien that there were 255 flights diverted to 15 airports. -- SNIyer12(talk) 23:57, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Please note that there were conflicting reports as to how many flights were diverted. Transport Canada said 224, NavCanada said 239. Chretien said the number was anywhere between 225 and 250. The exact total was 255. I've contacted each of the airports involved in the operation and got the numbers of flights diverted to their airports. -- SNIyer12(talk) 00:13, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

As you requested, I'm providing some of the sources: News broadcasts of September 11, 2001 by both CBC and Global, the September 12, 2001 edition of The National Post, annual reports by airports involved in the operation, and NavCanada. -- SNIyer12(talk) 19:01, 29 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Dorval International Airport was Montréal-Dorval International Airport on September 11, 2001. -- SNIyer12(talk) 13:30, 30 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I also added the fact that pilots were also asked to avoid Macdonald-Cartier International Airport in Ottawa, because it's one of the busiest airports in Central Canada. -- SNIyer12(talk) 22:33, 2 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I did some restructuring, especially with the operation part. Transport Canada activating its SitCen is part of deployment of emergency measures, as is NavCanada's role. -- SNIyer12(talk), 16:21, 5 Jul 2005 (UTC)

How come you haven't finished up the rest of the Cleanup, particularly in the Pacific Flights section? I may have to do that. SNIyer12(talk), 17:40, 15 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I'm going to do the cleanup for the Pacific flights section. SNIyer12(talk), 20:51, 17 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I think that this article is about to become a closed issue for the Cleanup Taskforce. Do you agree? SNIyer12(talk), 02:56, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I think that this article is going to become a closed issue. I straightened out the references, took out information that was repeated more than once, as well as added information about the scenes at airports about the diverted aircraft and the security: the RCMP performing security sweeps. SNIyer12(talk), 16:46, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I just made the article a closed issue. SNIyer12(talk), 17:30, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Cleanup Taskforce reminder[edit]

Greetings. You are receiving this boilerplate notice because you have a task on your Cleanup Taskforce desk that has not been updated for over 30 days. If you do not wish to complete this task please assign it to another Cleanup Taskforce member who has space on their desk. If you do not wish to receive cleanup requests on your desk any more, you may remove yourself from the membership list. If you or someone else has completed the task, you can close it by adding {{cleanup taskforce closed|ARTICLE NAME HERE}} to the article's talk page and removing it from Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce. If you have a status update (e.g. you intend to work on it in the future) or need help, you can update the collaboration page (which is linked from your desk). Also feel free to reply to the person who left you this message. -- Beland 06:44, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Omnipotence paradox[edit]

First of all, I'd like to offer my belated thanks for cleaning up omnipotence paradox. Using the sources added during cleanup and some suggested in peer review, I've expanded some sections, particularly those dealing with twentieth-century philosophy. I also found a couple useful pictures, even though the topic isn't particularly pictorial. It would be great to hear your comments on the article's current state, with a view towards WP:FAC sometime in the future. (I won't be nominating anything new until my current one is closed, one way or the other.)

Thanks in advance, and best wishes. Anville 10:59, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Canada[edit]

Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. A local chapter will help promote and improve the organization, within our great nation. We'd also like to encourage everyone to suggest projects for our national chapter to participate in. Hope to see you there!--DarkEvil 01:30, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Canadian Mennonite University[edit]

It would be appreciated if you would give your input at Talk:Canadian_Mennonite_University so we can get the ugly dispute box removed (whatever the final outcome is). OsgoodeLawyer 17:01, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Belannatorres.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Belannatorres.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:29, 14 February 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu badali (talk) 21:29, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ben Babcock. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:HalifaxInternationalAirport911.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Ben Babcock/Cleanup Taskforce/Operation Yellow Ribbon. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 06:59, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Research survey invitation[edit]

Greetings Ben Babcock-

My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a doctoral student at the University of Oregon, studying digital media and online community. I am posting to invite you to participate in my research study exploring the work of Wikipedia editors who are members of WikiProject: Countering Systemic Bias. The online survey should take 20 to 25 minutes to complete and can be found here:

https://oregon.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cSHzuwaQovaZ6ss

Your responses will help online communication researchers like me to better understand the collaborations, challenges, and purposeful work of Wikipedia editors like you. In addition, at the end of the survey you will have the opportunity to express your interest in a follow-up online interview with the researcher.

This research project has been reviewed and approved by the Wikimedia Research Committee as well as the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon. For a detailed description of the project, please visit its Meta page. This survey is voluntary, and your confidentiality will be protected. You will have the choice of using your Wikipedia User Name during the research or creating a unique pseudonym. You may skip any question you choose, and you may withdraw at any time. By completing the survey, you are providing consent to participate in the research.

If you have any questions about the study, please contact me via my Talk Page (UOJComm) or via email. My faculty advisor is Dr. Ryan Light. If you have any questions regarding your rights as a research participant, please contact the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Randall Livingstone School of Journalism & Communication University of Oregon UOJComm (talk) 03:41, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
