An explanation on my additions...

I changed "facings" to "uniforms". In the CF Dress Instructions there is a chapter on ceremonial uniforms; it gives the appropriate type of uniform (light infantry, rifle, etc) and other accoutremental info. Not all regiments have facings. I know most if not all other commonwealth regt's have them, but Canada turfed a lot of its traditions with integration, and they are only slowly making a reappearance. I also added "Miscellaneous traditions", such as the R Nfld R's aversion to polishing their cap badge, or the litle yellow lanyard that the RCR used to wear with their combats. I also added the Colonel-in-Chief, which all regts (and branches, for that matter) have.

One question, tho': isn't "order of precedence" going to be dicey, if you use it numerically? It always changes, depending on just who's on parade, unless you are talking parading the whole CF. Even then, should the CF shut down or amalgamate a branch or formation -- like say amalgamate the C&E and Int branches -- and every regiment will move up a notch, necessitating changing this entry for every regimental article. I sugest that if you want to keep it in, instead of saying "33rd in Infantry, 99th overall" or such, put "Preceded by: The Medicine Hat Irregulars. Succeeded by: The Fort Pepperell Muskets." The only ones who would get a numeric reference would be, e.g. in the Infantry:

The Royal Canadian Regiment. First in precedence (Infantry). Succeeded by: Princess Patricia's...

The Royal Newfoundland Regiment. Preceded by: The Toronto Scottish Regt. Last in precedence (Infantry).

Or how about even:

Preceded by
1st Inf Regt
The Royal Redcoats Succeeded by
The Loyalist Regt

comments[edit]

This looks good. Maybe add a section for current and recent deployments? (more for the reg force regiments i guess...). I'd really like to see a push to try to get all these articles up to a minimum standard. It seems a lot of the regiment's entries are limited to "_____ is an infantry regiment of the Canadian Forces." and the order of precedence. Mike McGregor (Can) 05:28, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Subcats[edit]

Don't know if anybody noticed, but I created subcats for Infanty Regiments, Cavalry Regiments, Engineer Regiments, Artillery Regiments and Armoured Regiments, as his category was getting too 'busy'. Any comments?Michael Dorosh 14:49, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
