What do you think of the first sentence of Gospel music claiming that gospel derives from blues and jazz? I'd be inclined to say the genres developed fairly independently, with modern gospel making use of both blues and jazz. I've heard a cappella gospel songs from the early 20th century which make use of nothing but simple melodies, with others from the same era that have intricate interweaving melodies reminiscent of parts of classical music. There should be some mention eventually of gospel music's ancestor for, spirituals. BTW, Kid Ory among others who knew him said that Buddy Bolden got a good bit of his inspiration for forming the style later to be known as jazz "primitive Baptist" black church music. do you know anything about Kruder & Dorfmeister? I just posted a rudimentary article about them, but the one article I have of theirs (K&D Sessions, which I don't mind telling you has been on constant rotation since I bought it 3 months ago) doesn't say anything about them inside. I've just found a few sites discussing them, briefly--e.g. VH1 and Rolling Stone, and a page with a fairly biased writeup of them that didn't tell me much I didn't already know (that the person likes their music, and that they've remixed some fairly well-known songs). Hello, TUF-KAT. I have read the reference you left me, but it is incorrect. No book on Greco-Roman mythology speaks about Lucifer or Aradia (Herodias), but books on witchcraft do. Herodias, deriving from the Jewish princess, who was against John the Baptist because he rejected her love, was turned into a goddess in early times of Christianity, and possibly in Tuscany, because it was cited as happening in Italy. Lucifer was never part of the Greco-Roman pantheon, and less a brother and consort of Diana. That tradition is posterior. There were warnings concerning this worship in Christian acts from the 10th century. I had left a message on the Village pump. If I acted in a disgusting way to your mind, I offer you my apologies, and it can be changed again, but I thought that the changes I made could avoid confussion among users. I insist in the fact that Herodias (Aradia), as a daughter of Diana and Lucifer, has nothing to do with Greco-Roman myths, and Diana, in those religions, was considered a virgin goddess; not in Wiccan tradition. Sorry, I forgot to add that the reference you left me is incorrect only in part, for it says Italy (Tuscany), and not Roman mythology; and that Wicca is a syncretic religion that took beliefs from others making some changes as all syncretic beliefs, and Aradia is revered mainly in Dianic Wiccan tradition; Wiccans have taken some traditions and practices from what was known as "witchcraft" and "heresy" (I am not a Christian and I am respectful of all beliefs). I don't think the change I made was in expense of another tradition that is not extrinsically mentioned by your reference, just, precisely, a differentiation between both beliefs. A page explaining the historic origin of the name Aradia (Herodias), Herodias and an Early Dianic Cult has been created and linked to Aradia's page and to Sabbath (witchcraft), being that Herodias was related to a Dianic cult associated to witchcraft by the Catholic church. Unfortunately I know nothing of the Merchant Marine outside of the US, as far as I know, it is unique to the United States, although I could be wrong. The reason I wrote about it was because it was high on the Wanted list and a number of my favorite writers (Kerouac and Selby come to mind at once) served in the USMM. Hi TUF-KAT, I recently encountered Music of Cuba. A great start on a fascinating topic! One comment: it has so many red links that it looks like an American flag! Don't get me wrong: I think that there should be articles on /all/ the topics in the Wiki. It's just that some of the subjects are quite esoteric, and it may be many years before an expert on the topic presents him/herself. I would like to tweak the article a bit, add a few things here and there, and I was wondering whether you would object to my de-linking some of the more obscure items. In the articles I've created, I only leave red links to articles I plan to write the same day or for articles for which there are already a few red links in other places.

That's fine if you don't feel the page merits its own entry, however, the 9-elements of hip hop are real. And KRS-One did state them when he first founded the Temple of Hip Hop, and he also proclaims them in a few songs. Lyrics to the Song Hip Hop Knowledge ... now I suppose if any other rapper had said this it wouldn' matter too much, but KRS has been attempting, since the mid 90s, to put forth a new image for hip hop. He would often say, "Hip hop is not something you do, but something you live." Through foundation of the Temple of Hip Hop he has attempted to redefine a lot of things, and I think it merits entry in an encyclopedia such as Wiki. Dead 16:09, 12 Dec 2003 (UTC)

French cuisine, Chinese cuisine etc.. is a style of cooking with various ingredients and methods of preparation, that can be enjoyed in any country. Hello TUF-KAT, I've done the imaqe on Minstrel show. Nice shots, by the way. However, I have no idea what to do with the other images, because in all cases the articles have no corresponding text section. The NZ article covers Maori and modern music, but the image is some (caucasian) plantation workers making music. The SA article has no real section on traditional music, so where'd the Zulu picture go? Same for England: nice images, but where are the text sections they'd belong to?

I would classify the musics as ethnic, since much of it is secular, rather than religious. Also, although there isn't an article on Ashkenazi music, there is an article on klezmer music. The other two would be cantorial music, and modern hassidic music. Meidation on Palestinian views of the peace process[edit]

RK and Martin invited me to mediate at Palestinian views of the peace process, but now Martin is saying that you might be a better mediator. The conflict is not about whether the article should be merged or whatever, it's more about how such information should be presented on Wikipedia. Personally, I think you'd be a better mediator than me because you were much more involved in the creation of the mediation comittee. It seems that you haven't had any conflicts with RK, something which is fairly rare (neither have I or Ed Poor, but I think we're the only active sysops who haven't). British Army infobox colours[edit]

I think you can probably remove the British Army colours for now. As you say, there's no project involved at this stage, it's just a scheme I came up with. Bureaucrat status[edit]

There's a new class of users who can turn other users into sysops. This could previously only be done by developers (such as myself). These users are called "bureaucrats". I've picked a few users from Wikipedia:Administrators who I think would make good bureaucrats, and you're one of them. Please don't take that as an insult. ;-)

Samples[edit]

Hey TK, the inclusion of music samples seems like a great idea (providing it's clearly legally OK, which I assume you have already determined it to be), but my system doesn't know what to do with these .ogg files even though I have Windows Media Player and Quicktime installed; is this a widely-used music format? Is there some reason not to use the more widely-supported .mp3 format? Jgm

Butting in...Winamp can play Ogg Vorbis files just fine. If you want another program, try Audacity which can also help you edit sound files. The reason Ogg is used instead of MP3 is that Ogg is an open source, unencoumbered format. For MP3, the different players would have to pay a fee.
