The Wars(1977), is another of Timothy Findley's works. This novel won the Governor General's Award that year, establishing Findley as one of Canada's top novelists.

Stone Orchard[edit]

I seem to recall a CBC interview wiith Findley, during his last book tour, in which he said he and Bill Whitehead had already sold Stone Orchard to Rex Harrington. Don't know that I'll ever see the interview again, though I wouldn't be surprised if it was mentioned other pieces froim that time. Again, I'm going by memory. You know, that was always the impression that I had, too...I always thought that because of the decline in Findley's health, they moved to France and sold Stone Orchard to Harrington while Findley was still alive. But when I looked for sources to include it in the article, the few sources I could find that actually gave a specific date for the sale said 2003. I'll keep looking for sources (and you should as well, if you have the time and inclination), but so far I haven't found a source that confirms my memory of how and when it happened. Okay, using different search terms I've now found a source that says Harrington bought Stone Orchard while Findley was still alive ([1]), but it doesn't give a specific year, so I've rewritten the section as generically as possible. Bearcat 19:08, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The introduction needs to be expanded — Timothy Irving Frederick Findley, OC, O.Ont (October 30, 1930 - June 21, 2002) is not, in and of itself, a sufficient introduction. It needs to be expanded into a full and complete sentence which states who and what Timothy Irving Frederick Findley, OC, O.Ont (October 30, 1930 - June 21, 2002) was. The introduction reads Timothy Irving Frederick Findley, OC, O.Ont (October 30, 1930 - June 21, 2002) was a Canadian novelist and playwright. He was also informally known by the nickname Tiff or Tiffy, an acronym of his initials. It did so even at the time you added the template, in fact, so I'm really not too clear on what your issue was. Marriage[edit]

Talk pages provide a means to introduce original facts that may not make it into articles. In this case, I knew Janet Reid (I'd worked with her in stock), and my (then) wife and I in 1957 held an engagement party for her and Tiff. Janet's rich parents bought them a bungalow for a wedding present. We spent the whole time keeping them separate at the party, because he was tipsy and telling guests that he was gay, and unfitted to be a husband. A week later, I went to deliver them a wedding present, but at their new home nobody was there. On the porch was a still smouldering mattress leaning against the railing. . .
