Orphaned non-free image (Image:Kannada on ubuntu.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Kannada on ubuntu.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:11, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:HPN.jpg, by 122.167.156.121 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:HPN.jpg fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

Requesting deletion of the image; will be uploading it on commons.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:HPN.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 10:53, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request for peer review.[edit]

HP Nadigrige namaskaragalu, i am Tejaswi, a native of Uttarakannada. the article Namadhari naik belonging to Karnataka wikigroup, is edited by me and deals with the community history of the Namadharis/Halepaiks of Uttara Kannada. In creating this article i have referred to most of Kannada literature sources, some of which are really rare [ex; Bombay gazetteer in Karnataka: Dharwad,Belgaum,Bijapur and Kannara districts, Venkataramgo Katti; Kaada toreya jaadu: Autobiography of Kadidal Shamanna; Kagodu ondu nenapu, C.B.Chandrashekhar;The Nayakas of Ikkeri, K.D.Swaminathan;,Bimba-Pratibimba, Dr.L.R.Hegde;D.L.N Avara Ayda Lekhana, Kamala Hampana]. These form a necessary part of the glorious literary tradition of Kannada language and need to be seconded. hence i request you to kindly review the page.

offlate, i have been facing unilateral notices on the material without a proper knowledgable discussion on the topic. the member issuing notices seems to lack relevent knowledge in the subject and is defintely biased. but the warnings and unwarranted editing may lead to the page loosing out on the precious information derived from above mentioned sources. So i request neutral observers like you to review it and opinionate. thankyou

We look forward to see you at Mumbai on 18-20 November 2011

An Important Issue[edit]

Hello Mr. HPN, I have seen your name in list of bureaucrats of Sa.wikipedia, so I am writing this. Please see the case of my candidature of adminship at sanskrit wiki here [[2]]. It was closed based on merely inactivity (which also is a false reason). Nobody on sanskrit wiki could understand any genuine reason for keeping this candidate (i.e. me) from becoming admin there, you can see what was Mayur's(an admin) comment on that refusal("That was sad..."), also you can see what was comments by others, who all were in favour of my adminship. It is clearcut case of misuse of power of discretion by the bureaucrat MikeLynch. Since the single reason of inactiveness of mine is not at all a reason, because you can check that no single admin is active from last 3 to 4 months, not a single edit, let aside any discussion. And at the same time I have been helping Sanskrit wiki users in lingustic as well as technical sense continuously (before as well as after denial of my adminship request). Please tell your opinion on this case. You can see that the same MikeLynch has 'promoted' some other persons to admin with votes far less than sufficient. This is an important matter because I had some good plans for sa.wiki and have been working for uplift of the same from the time when no one used to come on that wiki. Currently there is no single admin active who knows sanskrit fluently, so nobody can properly serve a request which is written in sanskrit, there have been many cases when the sanskrit-knower users requested something in sanskrit and were served in some other way, i.e. request wrongly understood(in fact there is no admin active at all except for MikeLynch himself). I hope you would be able to justifiably decide in the case. Thanks. -Hemant wikikosh (talk) 07:34, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't need to defend myself, but I stand by my decision. The recommended criteria for administrator tools is something around 500 edits, and though its not binding, and edit count is not a final indicator of capability, the user in question was inactive for large stretches of time. Suddenly if a user (who may have done lots of work before) comes out of the blue and asks for admin tools, how can it be given, when there is no clear indication that the user's standing has been good in recent times? I don't mean to question anyone's experience as such, I have, time and again, thanked Hemant for his work, and appreciated his deep understanding of the language. I have no PhD in Sanskrit, but I have a functional understanding of the language, and can very well understand it. I don't think I have received any requests in Sanskrit, but if I do, I shall be happy to answer it. I don't have to move around, with my marks card pasted on my forehead. When other users were "promoted" with lesser "votes", the situation was different, because we needed a lot of cleanup to be done to the interface. Besided, Mayur and Bhawani Gautam are very experienced users, with a proven track record. There are currently two active admins on the wiki (Mayur and me), and we frequently find ourselves out of any admin jobs to do. I don't mind giving the tools to anyone, as long as they demonstrate capability; how can I do so to a user, who, in the past weeks, has done little but discourage other users from editing, citing the "bureaucracy" in the "system"? In any case, why are we wasting time on such inconsequential ego matters when clearly, we have much work to do in improving the encyclopedia? Its no big deal. Lynch7 10:03, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This is like a person does an offence against A and when A goes to court and spends his time to find legal solutions, and warns others of the offender then offender says that "stay! don't blame me! first see. This person does not have any other job than "going to courts", "discouraging others" and "wasting time". Hence A is eccentric ( <=== because he does all this), so don't believe him."
And for your kind information, the interface is yet not clean at all. You call it clean because you can't see funny "sanskrit" phrases appearing there. Most of the cleaning work was done by me and user:Shubha, who time and again suggested the right phrases for different places. Like this argument of cleaning, you have presented many false 'facts' in above comment, but I would not answer them because interested person can check the truth himself.
You need not answer much for this Mr. Mike because your side you have made 'clear' already. Just have some patience. If you have confidence on your ways then no need to worry. I don't want to waste time arguing with you (and your self-contradictory logic). -Hemant wikikosh (talk) 15:18, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I never said it was clean, oh never. I merely said that the atmosphere at that time was different; there wasn't much activity then, as there is now; there was work to be done then, there is little maintenance to be done now. All the interface works which I have done, was suggested by Shubha herself; please don't give me credit for that. Lynch7 16:08, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Look Hemant, I don't want to be the bad guy who pulls up statistics and lawyers his way out of things. Lets stop this, and work collaboratively. I have respect for your contributions, as well as for your knowledge of the language. Let's get you some more content contributions, and a decent stretch of time editing, and you can very well reapply again. No one likes to waste time fighting over these matters. (Let's also spare HPN of the agony of having to read through all this). Lynch7 16:31, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't had a chance to follow developments on Sanskrit Wiki much of late. However, I'm personally of the opinion that more the sysops, the merrier. Sysop right is not a privilege, but *huge* responsibility. It would be good to have more responsible people on board supporting and encouraging many more volunteers. If any user with a clean profile and with a past record of useful contributions to project is willing to take up the responsibility, there are definitely positives in encouraging it. I see that there are three well-known contributors supporting the request. Unless there is a strong reason, this should not be declined. H P Nadig \Talk \Contributions 16:51, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Very well. I request him to reapply, as the request has expired (or not, if HPN is okay with me granting him the privileges right away). Hemant, I bear no malice towards you, hope the matter has been resolved. Lets work collaboratively Lynch7 16:59, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Mr. H P Nadig for your liberal views and help. Anyway I also thank Mr. Mike for his understanding now.
@Mr. Mike. Regarding modality of giving adminship in this case, I don't see a reason to apply again because anyway the same users will support me again (pretty good chances), though I will have to spend time in contacting them etc. merely to reproduce the state which has already occurred, besides wasting time of those important contributors. If you really feel that matter is resolved then you can grant the rights based on the previous supports also, since many users have felt that I had met the criteria that time. Though I can write a one-line note for 'reconsideration of my request for adminship' to overcome the technical hurdle of expiry of the request. -Hemant wikikosh (talk) 11:44, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Very well, I don't see need for the technicality. Lynch7 12:11, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Mike, thanks a lot for this corrective step. Let's work collaboratively. Again many thanks to Mr. H P Nadig for giving his precious time and viewpoint. Regards. -Hemant wikikosh (talk) 17:17, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please attribute or claim media you uploaded or restored: File:Mahishamardhini.jpg[edit]

You uploaded or restored , File:Mahishamardhini.jpg, but for various reasons did not add an {{information}} block, or indicate your (user) name on the file description page. Media uploaded to Wikipedia needs information on the SPECIFIC authorship and source of files, to ensure that it complies with copyright laws in various jurisdictions.

If it's entirely your own work:
please include {{own}} in the relevant source field, amend the {{information}} added by a third party, ensuring that your user name (or name you want used for attribution) is clear in the author field, and change the license to an appropriate "self" variant (if such a license is not already used). You should also add an |author= parameter to the license tag, to assist reviews and image patrollers. You can also add |claimed=yes and an |author=to the {{media by uploader}} or {{presumed_self}} tag if it is present to indicate that you've acknowledged the image, and license shown (and updated the {{information}} where appropriate).

If it's not entirely your own work, or the media is based on the work of others:
Please update the source and authorship fields, so that they accurately reflect the source and authors of the original work(s), as well as the derivative you created. You should also not use a "self" license unless the work is entirely you own. Media that is incorrectly claimed as self or {{own}}, will eventually be listed at Files for Discussion or deleted, unless it's full status is entirely clear to other contributors, reviewers and image patrollers. You should also read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission which details how to confirm any permissions you obtained for works by others that are still in copyright.

Whilst this notification, relates to a single media upload, it would also be appreciated if you could ensure that appropriate attribution exists for other media you uploaded, You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

It's okay to remove or strike messages like this once the concerns have been addressed. :). ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 12:54, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:18, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
